I've been buying apps using free Amazon Coins all year, and I still have $42 worth. They'd be much more valuable to me if I could use them for music, videos, and/or e-books. But that's okay. I've been accruing $1 "Amazon Prime no-rush shipping credits," which can be used for that digital content.

I've gotten a couple of those myself, but I'm not sure they can really be used for e-books. My promotional balance info shows the balance under mp3s and videos but shows a big fat 0 for e-books.

But the email clearly says ebooks:

Yep, and it says e-books when it shows up at checkout, and yet it's not showing me as having any credit under Kindle editions:



So it doesn't look like they gave me credit for e-books too. You can check your own promo balances in the link above to see if yours is the same or not.

The promotional credit does apply to Kindle ebooks. I've bought one using some of my credit. But it doesn't show up in your Kindle Editions balance. It does show up in the Digital Music balance.

Be aware that there's no chance to change your mind when you have some promotional balance. Click buy and it's done.

I took the word "eligible" to be a qualifier for all digital content listed there and not just for ebooks. Outside of that, I have no idea what they mean by eligible.

I've successfully used my credits for Kindle books even though it didn't show up under Kindle editions for me either (just music and video) so I wouldn't worry about that too much. I also returned a book purchased with my credit (ended up cheaper elsewhere) and got the credit back. I did have one problem where one of my credits didn't show up in my account right away even though I got an email about it. I contacted Amazon via email to ask about it and they gave me a $5 credit to apply to anything, then the credit showed up, and when I contacted them again they told me to just keep the $5 plus my earned credits.

Well that's good to know. I'm actually planning to use it on music, but was a bit peeved it seemed to not actually be available for e-books like the promo info said.
