If their not what you're looking for in a no-contact phone, they may be good for media players... they have android 4.4 on them.

I have multiple iOS devices and two Kindles, yet I'm tempted to buy this and never activate it as a phone just to be able to access potential windows exclusive apps and promos. Someone talk me out of this quick!

Moore's law means that in tech purchases, patience is rewarded. Next year it will be half the price, or free after rebate.

That is one lesson of my last post here (#485).

Even though I feel myself usually immune to impulse purchases, when DealNews.com this morning mistakenly showed a US$29 after rebate Paperwhite, I clicked through to purchase, missing the error until DealNews fixed it a few minutes later. Now I have to either keep the $29 basic Kindle, or return to a brick and mortar store. In a year or so, the Paperwhite likely really will be, on the correct day, $29 -- the same price I paid for a Kindle Keyboard lighted case about a year ago.

It's too late to cancel the order as it will arrive tomorrow. I did go ahead and purchase from Amazon and initiated the return process with Microsoft. One of the options was "lower price". I just won't open the box when it arrives tomorrow and send it back with the prepaid label they sent.

I understand it works great on WiFi only so I just ordered one to use as a quasi-iPod

$20 is just too cheap to pass up.

I'm think more to play with Win 8.1 and to be able to access deals like the recent music deal which I missed because I don't have a Win 8 machine and didn't manage to get a VM setup before the deal ended.

That's a good deal on the Windows phone. I'm thinking about an off contract Android phone just to use as an MP3 Player and Chromecast remote. Anyone using an Android phone like that, and do you have any suggestions for a cheap phone like that?
