A couple of weeks ago I bought a sleep cover for my Glo and then not long after we had the firmware update .... so I can't work out if it's the sleep cover that's causing the battery to use up quickly or the firmware.

The Glo is 2 years old, and at the moment I'm recharging it at least twice a week, usually when the battery shows around the 70% mark. Although this morning it was down to 49%.

I make sure that the Glo is off when the sleep cover is on and I do that by leaving the light on - so when the sleep cover is on, the light is off.

Do you have the automatic sync set on? It can use a few percent of the battery. But, it gets worse if there are problems. I think if there are network problems, it can sometimes keep trying rather than timing out and stopping. I think it's the WiFi connection as it happens more when the Glo is in the bedroom overnight rather than a room closer to the access point.

Thanks David but I don't use sync at all and they're all sideloaded epubs.

Nor do I ever use the internet from the Glo and that's off.

I've been experiencing horrible battery drain since 3.12 (I think - it could be since 3.11 as I upgraded pretty close together).

I have wifi/sync permanently off and have disabled my sleepcover (which had been working fine). Since then I have recalibrated the battery twice, factory reset (twice), reconverted all my side-loaded epubs to ensure it wasn't a dodgy file and still have to re-charge twice a week.

As it's such a big change in battery performance I was now assuming it was a h/ware issue and getting ready to open my Glo and replace the battery but seeing your post I'm gonna revert back to 3.8.0 and see if that helps. Will report back in a couple of days & keep fingers crossed.

I have experienced the battery drain problem as well (in firmware releases prior to 3.11.0). But the odd thing is, sometimes if I did a factory reset and reloaded the same firmware, the problem would disappear (and sometimes it wouldn't). It seems to be a completely random occurrence. I have no idea what triggers it. I always have Wi-Fi turned off, sync turned off, etc. I'm not currently experiencing it on 3.11.0.

Yes, I've always used the official Kobo sleep covers, both with my HD and with my H20. The battery drain problem didn't seem to be associated with the sleep cover--although, since I don't know what caused the battery drain, I suppose it could have been the sleep cover. It was very frustrating. At one point, my battery was draining from 100% to 60% or less overnight. Then the problem went away and hasn't returned. I think I reloaded the firmware (3.1? 3.3? 3.8?) but I really don't remember. Sorry. I hope you figure it out.

I also had a one off sudden battery drain on my Aura shortly after upgrading to 3.12.0.

I have a feeling the light stayed on overnight even though the (non-Kobo) sleep cover was closed, but it is a bit like checking if the fridge light stays on...

I've had no problems like this before or since.

Bad news - after downgrading to 3.8 the battery drain is still horrible, after 24 hours down to 76%. So it looks like the firmware is not the culprit.

Time to crack open the Glo.

For the patch_name = "ePub fixed top/bottom margin", how can I get "zero top and bottom margin"? I like to optimize fullscreen reading page.

You can easily check if the light is on or off in the closed sleep cover by just checking the sides of the cover in a dark room. The light seeping through from under the flap of the cover is very evident.

Found out in 3.11.0 and in 3.12.0 that the reader (glo) doesn't go to sleep if you highlight something.
I just highlighted some txt to make an annotation of it,but then my phone rings.
Totally forgot the reader, didn't closed the sleepcover and when I put of the light to go to sleep i discovered that the Glo's display and light was still on draining the battery dramatically.
It seems that the autosleep function only works while you read or are in main menu.
I now know why my Glo was empty 3 days ago, i felt asleep reading (stupid,it can falls) and in my sleep while still holding it (I presume) by accident highlighted something because when i woke up next morning, light was off, the Glo still displayed the page i was on,with the highlighted txt but did not respond anymore because the battery was dead.
So I upgraded the Glo of my GF to 3.12.0 and highlighted some txt and leave the reader alone, autosleep is set on 15 minutes but it is still on after 3 hours now, doesn't display the cover ,and light still burning.
