23 of the 55 Kindle ebooks downloaded have DRM or 42%. What are these authors thinking? Almost all of them were free by self-published authors in KDP Select and KU.

Even pre-Calibre 2.x, you had to add Amazon eBooks in small batches. I did no more then 5 at a time and that worked well. Adding too many and some will not have the DRM removed.

I just use the stand alone tools. Always works, and I send them to my automatic add folder

The only other time I had trouble was when I tried to do all 2,000 of my B&N books at once! About a quarter to a third of those didn't get de-DRMed.

Yes, that's what I do. You need to read the instructions carefully first, there is as I recall a python script to install, then it's very easy to use, Just drag and drop.

In case anyone hasn't seen the separate thread, the new version of the tools (6.1.0) has fixed the problem of batch imports.

Did they change something in their DRM recently (as in just in the last week)? I have never had problems removing the DRM from my B&N books before... and the book I just purchased? Nope. Nothing. Won't take the DRM off for anything. Very frustrating.
