I noticed that the Voyage no longer supports app-like functionality so you can't do things like play Chess etc, which you could on previous Kindles. Presumably due to the lack of comment, this feature is unimportant to most users. Personally I dislike the trend, but that's another story. But tell me, can you use the Voyage (or previous Kindles) as a note taker? I don't mean annotations within books. I mean having a dedicated memo / text file type affair, independent of a book, which can then be saved and transferred off the device as a text file. A similar feature under Android would be the Jota text editor app.

A lot of it's wriiten and read by men too. But as to the appeal, it's the dynamics, with romance between men and women the gender roles are very generalised, especially in historicals which is my favorite genre, the women are always younger and weaker, the men always bigger and stronger. With MM romance as both characters are men the roles are much harder to define, both men can be whatever the writer wants them to be. I like that. I like not knowing what kind of story I'll read. That's the best way I can describe it.

Why don't you try one, you never know you might like it. Josh Lanyon is an author I would highly recommend for a newbie to the genre, he writes mystery detective type stories. Stranger on the Shore is a standalone recent story that I really enjoyed.

This, many times over, and the fact I read romance differently now than when I was younger.

When I was younger, I wanted to BE the girl in the romance. I went through a ton of them. After meeting my Dear Hubby, I find I have no need to put myself in any part of the Romance. I'm happier now as a pretend voyeur than a pretend participant.

And since I like men, two is better than one. And maybe it's because when I was growing up, male protagonists are more interesting to me. I read all the Hardy Boys as a kid before I got to Nancy Drew, and would rather have had more Hardy Boys.

Not that I don't read female leads, but they have to be strong in ways that interest me.

MM romance is extremely varied, we have every sub genre within it as normal genres and there is as many books with little or no sex as there is Xrated. For me personally I'm more interested in the relationship than anything else. I've never read 'normal romance' stories prior to discovering MM romance I read historical and fantasy. I still read those stories but now within the context of MM romance. Since I discovered it back in 2009 I've never read anything else.

Me too. I loved the Hardy Boys. I also grew up reading westerns. Strong leads is the right way to describe it. I love romance stories, a happy ending is the perfect way to end a book but I have no wilting flower heroines in my stories

I've reserved one for argos, so I'll pick it up after work tonight. If updated my kindle every year since the 3G so I may as well continue the tradition.

Interesting. I can see that. I'd be fearful to read one though! Lol.

Unfortunately, in so many m/f romance books, our hero must be a gazillionaire and our heroine is too stupid to live. And every guy is dominant.

In m/m romance, our heroes can be plumbers, a glass blower, a gardener, a boater (I've been reading a lot of Jo Myles, can you tell?). It's a much more equal system and no 'to stupid to live' heroines. And in fact, one of my favorite books "Too Stupid To Live" is an m/m romance that pokes fun at that trope.

And as Josie says, it can be as much or as little sex depending on the author. I personally love the Xrated but do read off the page books as well. And it can be all kinds of genres just like in mf - cops/robbers, paranormal, historical, pirates (The Red King).

It's a baby step process, I read a few before I had friends to recommend books and were so-so, but now that's what I read 90% of the time.

Maybe a stupid question, but what about f/f romance? Is that similar in a way to m/m that it doesn't fit exactly one cookie cutter shape? Or is the actual problem in our society that in a f/f romance both still struggle being female?

Thank you, as I might be buying a Voyage this weekend, (just purchased the Paperwhite 2 it is good but I wanted as clear of a screen as possible), I was hoping to get some more first impressions on the Voyage, thanks.

I've read my way through the whole conversation and the more posts I read the more uncertain I get about my new Voyage. Amazon replaced it three times because of screen problems and by this time I can`t look at the screen any longer without confusion. Maybe I'm seeing issues because my brain tells me - and not my eyes (already discussed in this thread).

Maybe some of you can look at my screen and tell what you are thinking about it. The picture was taken in a slightly dark room with brightness settings on 14.

It matters what you think it looks like to you in each, all, the most used reading environment. Your picture shows the typical color gradient that some won't tolerate, while others won't see it or won't care.

I am not sure if 14 is too bright for a darkish environment. On my PW I am happy to read at brightness 10 all the time (in very dark through sunlight). My wife usually preferes 12 or higher at all times. If you took the picture to show off a possible fault and it is not your prefered reading brightness, then the picture does not help you any.
