Just Purchased Paperwhite 2 Questions & Issues
After reading about the two tone lighting issues on the Voyage that some were experiencing, I decided to purchase the Paperwhite 2. It has shadows at the bottom which only become an issue when you get to that part of the page but it is an issue I could live with. Another forum member told me that this is something that occurs with all Paperwhites but the Voyage does not have this problem.
After reading on it for a few days there is one issue that is slightly annoying. In the top middle portion of the page there is a cloudy, maybe smokey or perhaps just a dull yellow spot that makes the text less clear, however it is not there at all times which is odd. It happens whether or not I have page refresh set for every page or if I have that turned off. I'm willing to go to the Voyage if the two tone issues are not on every Voyage and take my chances I get one that is fully clear and if there are no cloudy spots at all. I wish the font could be a little darker on the Paperwhite and I was told that the Voyage does have a sharper and darker font. For the people who have a Voyage without any lighting tone issues, what do you think overall, is the page consistently clear from top to bottom? To me this is the most important thing because you lose yourself in a book, not even realizing it is a device when every part of the page is clear and readable. Finally the full page refresh black flash seems to happen at 7 to 11 page turns, I thought that it only fully refreshed at the end of each chapter? I thought the 7 to 11 page turn refresh occurred on the Paperwhite 1. Thanks for your help. Last edited by GordonGekko; 12-18-2014 at 02:48 AM. |

A cloudy area of the screen is not normal; I'd recommend contacting Kindle CS and arranging a replacement.
All eInk screens need to do a periodic full refresh to eliminate ghosting. |

If it were not for this dull spot in the lighting the Paperwhite 2 would be excellent. |

That is definitely a faulty PW2. If you decide to get another PW2, it might be better to get it from Amazon, too. I just got a couple of PW2s from Amazon, not too long ago, and their lighting is flawless.
