You are totally not alone in this one, Catlady! I like scribbling things so I can emphasize some texts and ingredients that I think I may tend to overlook. Hahaha. I don't print out a paper copy though (because I'd also scribble on the e-reader and fill it with highlights) lol

I'm a LITTLE bit of a purist and can't seem to actually write in the cookbook itself. But I do love to write notes about recipes on Post-It's and stick that throughout the book. As a bonus, it works as a bookmark to help me find my favorites quickly

Nah. Easier to clean off of a tablet.

I threw out a whole big box of them. I never use them as I can find any recipe on the internet for free and I keep all my tried and true recipes on Google Docs.

I used to say I wanted knitting books in paper format. But I got some during the Kindle Unlimited trial, and the ability to bookmark things I am interested in has changed my mind. And I don't have to find a place to put them!

Paper format knitting books are so lovely. I found this knitting book (I forgot the name) but I was so amazed by it. It's a big book that states it's everything a beginner to proficient knitter would need.
It had easy-to-understand instructions and the glossy pages were so pretty (and colorful); I loved all the knitting ideas it had but at that time I wasn't planning to knit (and the book was expensive!).

I went back to the bookstore where I found it last year but it wasn't there anymore.

Check out the Principals of Knitting or the Knitting Book. Those, and Vogue Knitting are my reference books. You are correct, those need to be in big print, and a tablet is too small. Of course, some might have video links, but I am not a visual learner, so that doesn't do anything for me.

eBook cookbooks suffer the same problem as pBook cookbooks.
Which book was that recipe in?

Recipe software is much more useful, when looking for a specific recipe.
The downside is that there is no standard recipe file format.
The experience of transcribing recipes to recipe software can range from utterly tedious, to only slightly unpleasant.

If one can find the recipe on the Internet, and the recipe software can import recipes, then recipe transcription is merely time consuming.

So what I do now, is transcribe the pBook or eBook recipe to recipe software by hand, and hope that when I get my next device, I'll be able to automatically import my recipe collection to the recipe software for it.
(Currently I have somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 recipes in the program. But I have 20,000 recipes in pBooks and eBooks.)

I believe Evernote can do what you want. I plan to move mine over there when I get time.

Ack. That's one book I wouldn't buy. It really bugs me when authors are so lacking in knowledge of written English that they don't know the difference between the words "principle" and "principal" . If they can't be bothered to get their words right, I can't be bothered to read their books. I recently abandoned a book in disgust when the author used the word "stationary" to describe writing paper, rather than the correct "stationery".

The solution to that is to use a device with a "global search" function that can search your entire library. Kindles can do this.

This is another reason that I print out recipes. If it's something I really like, I put the printed page in a sheet protector in a loose-leaf binder so I can easily categorize it and know where to find it.

Maybe the book is by school principals who knit...

I think the 'principals' misspelling was done by Sydney's Mom and not the authors.
