Bargain @ 99 cents for today only (Dec 12th) according to the newsletter from Open Road Media (couponable @ Kobo, price should be valid in the other standard Canada & US stores, may or may not be discounted in other regions, etc.):

Scarborough Fair and Other Stories by Nebula Award-winner Elizabeth Ann Scarborough (ISFDB, Wikipedia), an author I generally find enjoyable for her humorous light fantasies (she also did sf collabs with Anne McCaffrey which I haven't read).

This is a collection of her short stories, mostly fantasy but a few science fiction, and mostly humorous and with lots of cats in them, originally out in 2003. I bought this years ago from Fictionwise (at a much higher price) and mostly liked it when I read it, although it's very light in tone and generally fluffier than her actual novels, so YMMV if you wanted some more serious/representative-of-the-author's-style reads. But this is a really good sale price for a decent intro to a fairly good author.

Scarborough Fair and Other Stories includes “Introduction,” “The Mummies of the Motorway,” “Final Vows,” “Whirlwinds,” “Worse Than the Curse,” “Boon Companion,” “Long Time Coming Home” with Rick Reaser, “Mu Mao and the Court Oracle,” “Don’t Go Out in Holy Underwear or Victoria’s Secret or Space Panties!!!,” “The Invisible Woman’s Clever Disguise,” “A Rare Breed.”

These 11 delicious short stories from Nebula Award-winning author Elizabeth Ann Scarborough imaginatively blend science fiction, mystery, and humor.

A bit of a change of pace - a TV tie-in.

The Returned by Seth Patrick. £1.19 at Amazon UK.

It's the official novelisation of Season 1 of the French television series (a.k.a. Les Revenants in its home country). A second volume based on the as-yet-unfinished Season 2 is apparently on the cards for next year.

What happens when your prayers are answered?

Camille

A young girl wakes cold and alone on the side of a mountain with no memory of how she got there - and no idea that she died four years ago. When she arrives back home, her family are both thrilled and terrified. How can such a miracle be real?

Simon

A troubled young man returns to town to find his fiancée is betrothed to another man. Jealous and angry, he cannot forgive her for moving on with her life.

Victor

An enigmatic boy who refuses to speak, possessed with a strange intensity that gives no clues as to his intentions. He's lost. Equally as lost as the emotionally vulnerable Julie to whom Victor gives a reason for living.

Serge

Tormented and driven by a hunger so overpowering that not even death can keep him from his desires

Worth pointing out that it shouldn't be confused with Jason Mott's The Returned, which runs along similar lines and has been turned into the US series Resurrection. Also £1.19, with the three prequel short stories being free.

Andrea K Höst an Australian indie author, has a sale on until the end of the year of all her books (excluding omnibus) for 99c (or your currency equivalent).

I have read and enjoyed her touchstone trilogy (the first book Stray is free and the next two are now 99c) and the stand alone "And all the Stars" both are science fiction.
She has also written several fantasy books that I have not yet read, but will now be getting some to try.

Books are available at amazon, kobo (couponable), smashwords and should also be discounted elsewhere soon.

Description for Stray

On her last day of high school, Cassandra Devlin walked out of exams and into a forest. Surrounded by the wrong sort of trees, and animals never featured in any nature documentary, Cass is only sure of one thing: alone, she will be lucky to survive.

The sprawl of abandoned blockish buildings Cass discovers offers her only more puzzles. Where are the people? What is the intoxicating mist which drifts off the buildings in the moonlight? And why does she feel like she's being watched?

Increasingly unnerved, Cass is overjoyed at the arrival of the formidable Setari. Whisked to a world as technologically advanced as the first was primitive, where nanotech computers are grown inside people's skulls, and few have any interest in venturing outside the enormous whitestone cities, Cass finds herself processed as a 'stray', a refugee displaced by the gates torn between worlds. Struggling with an unfamiliar language and culture, she must adapt to virtual classrooms, friends who can teleport, and the ingrained attitude that strays are backward and slow.

Can Cass ever find her way home? And after the people of her new world discover her unexpected value, will they be willing to let her leave?

Description for And All the Stars

Come for the apocalypse.
Stay for cupcakes.
Die for love.

Madeleine Cost is working to become the youngest person ever to win the Archibald Prize for portraiture. Her elusive cousin Tyler is the perfect subject: androgynous, beautiful, and famous. All she needs to do is pin him down for the sittings.

None of her plans factored in the spires: featureless, impossible, spearing into the hearts of cities across the world – and spraying clouds of sparkling dust into the wind.

Is it an alien invasion? Germ warfare? They are questions everyone on Earth would like answered, but Madeleine has a more immediate problem. At Ground Zero of the Sydney spire, beneath the collapsed ruin of St James Station, she must make it to the surface before she can hope to find out if the world is ending.

There's a half-price sale on at Rebellion/Solaris. In the UK, at least. I Don't know about their international availability.

Another publisher that doesn't have a clue about websites.

When sorting by other than the default Date/Descending, the sort resets to the Date/Descending on any subsequent page.

So tempting. I have a couple nice physical sets of the trilogy, and Hobbit, but now that I'm starting to get into digital this is going to be hard to resist. Even though I haven't read them since high school. Will end up being the most expensive purchases of my digital journey so far!

Oh, wow! It says "This title is not currently available for purchase". On every link, even when I go to the Canadian site. Guess Amazon doesn't want my money after all. :-(

A couple of Kim Harrison (ISFDB, Wikipedia) omnibus bargains on her popular Rachel Morgan/The Hollows urban fantasy series from HarperCollins (non-couponable, linkage goes to Kobo, should be matched in the other stores, but the price depends on country):
  1. @ $7.99 (in US & Canada), Kim Harrison Bundle #1, containing #1-4. This was cheaper as a Kobo Daily Deal for Canadians only about a month ago for $2.99, but if you were in the US and missed it, this seems like a fairly decent price now.
  2. @ $6.99 for Canada only so far ($27.99 in the US when I check), Kim Harrison Bundle #2, containing #5-8. A pretty good price for the next 4 books in series, and seems unlikely to drop further any time soon.
Also, x-link to the Historical Fiction megathread since George R. R. Martin's ASOIAF was inspired by Maurice Druon's Les Rois Maudits and fans of the former might wish to try the latter:

Bargain @ $1.99-$4.99 for #1 & #2 of Druon's The Accursed Kings series out in translation from HarperCollins, depending on which region you shop

Not sure if anybody cares but Omnilit has several Piers Anthony titles for 1.99

If you are interested I would advise that you hurry normally the books I listed are usually 5 dollars.

they are not listed as on sale but the prices are better than that of Amazon and Kobo and on mundania press the publisher's website, and are drm free.
also they allow you download the books in several formats if available for backup purposes.

Don't bother getting this version of Ox. It is missing the pictures for the explanations of hexaflagon and the game of life. The text descriptions are there but they aren't good enough without the pictures that are part of the print version.

Harrumph, I see that B&N never fixed my incorrectly transferred LOTR from Fictionwise, which got transfered as just The Two Towers.
