I've been putting my Kindle Touch in a jacket pocket for ~3 years, and it hasn't broken yet.

You seem to be missing the point of my post, so let me restate it.

My normal text size for reading is one of the larger middle-sized ones. The smaller ones are too small for me and the larger ones are to large for me; I use the one that's just right. It's sort of like Goldilocks & the Three Bears.

It's not a matter of worrying about someone looking over my shoulder and commenting on the text size; why would I care about that? Reading with too large a text size can be just as uncomfortable as reading with a too small one. I have to switch up to a larger text size when my eyes get tired because it then becomes easier for me to read using that larger size - where before it wasn't. ”Setting it and forgetting it" simply doesn't work on my case, and it's only the action of a moment to change the text size, so it's not an onerous chore.

Some people, one the other hand, have very acute vision and they are comfortable with the smaller text sizes.

I do think that an important criteria in an ereader is the range of text sizes available, because no one really knows at the time of puchase which size/font combination they are going to find the most agreeable. The more choices provided, the less need to ”settle".

Not everyone has the opportunity to try out a particular ereader before purchase. All of my ereaders were purchased without ever trying out a working demonstration model, with the exception of the Nooks. I had never even seen the others in real life beforehand. So my purchases had to be made strictly from online specs, ad copy, user videos, and online user recommendations .

A good idea is to get a Kobo and an Kindle for testing of eBooks. The 300 just doesn't cut it because the version of ADE used is too old.
Hey JS. Please elaborate on this. (I really don't know what you mean.) Define what you mean by "testing." Thanks.

And if I need to do this testing. Can I do it on a regular Kindle and a less expensive Kobo (mabye the "Kobo Touch" But that's $99. Maybe when it goes on sale it will be what, $69 maybe?)

Wonder how long the PW will be $99. Since I've been following it it seems like it goes to $99 pretty frequently. Would you agree or have they just been pricing it there lately?

I think he means previewing and proofreading your own books you publish on an actual device to make sure they look as they should. Your publisher does list you as president and secretary: http://businessprofiles.com/details/...nc/IL-62723688 - how much actual work you do besides writing and turning in your manuscript is not clear (to me). If someone else turns your manuscript into an actual ebook file, then you wouldn't need worry about proofing it.

But I would think Greg would want to make sure his eBooks look good even if someone else did the work of converting the source document.

What I mean by testing is previewing your eBooks on a dedicated Reader (Kindle & Kobo) and seeing how they look. This way, you'll know they look how you want them to look.

For the Kindle PW, $99 is for a refurbished unit. There's no problem buying a refurbished unit from Amazon as it comes with the full warranty.

As for Kobo, the Aura is a better Reader then the Touch and at $99, it's a pretty good price. http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/ereadi.../ereaders/aura

It doesn't say refurbished for PW - $99, list price $119, you save $20. The refurbished one is also $99 down from $109.

Edit: mhh seriously thinking about it. It can be bundled with 6 months of KU for $30. That would be a total saving of $50 for me since I already have KU. Have to find out if the KU offer is also for existing KU subscribers and if my no-ads can be switched over from my PW1.

Then I suggest the Kobo Aura and the Kindle PW both new and both $99.

I think I remember reading somewhere, either here on in the Amazon Kindle forum that someone did have the no-ads switched from one device to another. You'll have to contact Customer Service, but I'm pretty sure it's doable.

Thank you, I believe I have seen it as well. I would need it confirmed by cs though before I place the order just to be sure.

$99 ain't bad for the Aura. I like the flush-bezel and light. If I could put Alreader on it (text covering the screen right up to the edges!), I'd be tempted. But I can't

For the PW2 at $99, is that the model with or without ads?

The patches for the Aura fi4rmware allow you to have text that goes all way to the edges. So you don't need Alreader. You just need to patch and you'll get the text the way you want.

My mileage is not quite up to HarryT's. I may not have learned the all tricks to make a RMSDK version EPUB look as good (my definition ) on my K4

Drop caps have big top/bottom blank space (the K does not respect margin-bottom, margin top values, which may be my issue)
OTOH embedded fonts (I sometime use for chapter titles) seem to work out
