I sideloaded 3.11.0. And I'm not talking about regular ghosting, which I can live with. This ghosting was more as if the cover image (since it only happened when the reader was first awakened after sleep) was superimposed on the page I was reading, as if the reader was trying to display two pages at once. I set the refresh to 1, lived with that for a couple of weeks, then set the refresh back to 6, and the problem had disappeared. I'm still on 3.11.0 and I get normal ghosting of the cover image--NOTHING like my original complaint. Since it went away by itself and I can't duplicate it, I quit complaining about it.

Edited to add: BTW, it seemed as if the longer the reader was in sleep mode, the darker the ghost image. If I put the reader to sleep and awakened it immediately, the ghost image was pretty faint and normal. If I left the reader to sleep overnight, the ghost image was very dark.

I didn't notice that it had anything to do with the battery charge. I did notice that the longer the reader slept, the darker the ghosting was when the reader woke up (see my reply to PeterT, above).

I download and install myself the firmware. There is no problem during installation. I have the ghosting problem only with 3.11 and 3.12 version. I use the plugin Kobomultitouch ( but i don't think this plugin guilty ) There is no more problem when i go back to 3.8.

I agree, after few sleeping hours ghosting is very stronger. I don't know if this problem is bad or not for the screen and for the reader. For that reason i prefer stay with the "old" ( 4 month ! ) 3.8 and wait for next patch......

Thanks, but with the version 3.8 i set this number to the highest ( 6 ) and it's perfect and since 3.11 i have ghosting with the lowest number ( 1 )

Just wanted to chime in--I'm on firmware 3.11 on my Aura HD and notice the ghosting issue of the cover image when I first start reading. For what it's worth I sideloaded the firmware.

I have my refresh set to 6 pages--did set it down to 1 page for a while, but have since went back to 6. Still have the ghosting issue until the HD does a full page refresh. If the image happens to be so dark it's distracting I just force a full page refresh by turning the page six times.

I don't remember this being a problem before updating to 3.11, but I've only had my Aura HD since the middle of August, so the problem could have always been there and just took a while for me to notice it. It seems that all that would be needed to solve the problem would be for the firmware be modified to automatically perform a page refresh when waking up. (Sounds simple, but not being a programmer don't know if it would be as simple to implement as it sounds.)

This is just to let everyone know that in the thread about patching 3.12.0, there is a new font size patch that now has 40 steps instead of 24 for even more fine control over font sizes.

I have updated the Aura HD and the Glo to the 3.12 firmware through WIFI and I don't experience any kind of ghosting with either of them.

We are very few but problem exists. Maybe it's only with a special lot of Aura HD. It's permanent but stronger at wake up of the Kobo. It's not only with the cover but with all pages: on blank lines i can see a little ( unreadable ) ghost of the previous page. Blank parts of a page seems not 100% white. It's light but not nice......By luck it's reversible coming back to older firmware.

There are two issues that started with firmware 3.11.0 to do with ghosting after waking from sleep:

1. The screen is not refreshed when woken from sleep by the sleepcover (it works okay when waking with the switch.)

2. The first screen after being woken has very light text, which changes to normal weight after turning the page. (happens with sleepcover and switch.)

I think these combine to give the effect of a very heavy ghost of the sleep screen when using the sleepcover to wake the device.

Does anyone knows when this 3.12 version will be deployed automatically by Kobo desktop when you connect your Kobo?

It always seems to take 2 weeks to a month at least for new firmware to auto install with sync with Kobo servers.
