Firmware 3.12.0 - Page 7

As a general comment about the difficulties I've had trying to read the Fussell book (annotations bug causing book to stop dead and then return to home page 'finished', and unable to press notes), how does the ordinary reader who isn't a member of MR and who has no knowledge of html or CSS go about enjoying the book?

If I didn't have access to all your brains and skills I would've been screaming out of frustration that I'd bought a Kobo (epub) book and couldn't finish reading it because it locked me out.

I think the way forward for Kobo re accessing the notes is to use standard text font and enclose the numbers in []. That way they're very accessible.

But the annotations bug has been going for some time, and only now does it look like one of the MR members (davidfor) will identify the solution. Not Kobo, but davidfor. (onya david

Most of that is the design of the book. Whoever created it did it without the underlines or extra character to make the link bigger or more obvious. That is fine in a paper book, but, not so good in an ebook. The Kobo problem is that they don't make the link easier to press in epubs. They do in kepubs.

Has anyone reported the bug to Kobo? I know I haven't. When I saw it and worked out what was happening, it was because I was cheating. I did something the device didn't support. Then I fixed it for my book, finished the book and forgot about it. Hence, I didn't report it. With what is happening with your book, I can reproduce it in a way that is just using the device. That is a bug I can report. Hopefully, I'll have time over the weekend to write it up properly.

Yes, it would be frustrating, and it would probably lead to a factory reset.

Updated mine to the latest firmware and it somehow solved pinch to zoom for me (it was way smoother in the earlier firmwares and it was bugging me at 3.11). I noticed that even if I set it to refresh every chapter, it refreshes the screen after every page. However, it works properly when I set it to refresh every 10 pages. A bit annoying, really.

I didn't know you could set the refresh by chapter? Where exactly can you do that?

Although I'd prefer a specific number of pages, with chapters you never know how long or short they'll be and could end up with some bad ghosting at times.

I think refresh by chapter was specific to the Aura.

Re the Annotations bug, I hadn't realised that it hadn't been reported (or it's unknown if it's been reported), it seems to have been around quite a long time. (Maybe approx 1 year?)

David please don't do the bug report unless you really do have time (although if you're looking for excuses to get out of the Christmas shopping at overcrowded malls I can understand your reasoning

).

What a hoot the factory reset fix ..... 'cos it'd still be broke ....

I assume somewhere in the last 7 pages (sorry its late here and I want to go to bed) someone has mentioned our old favorite 'duplicate shelves' is back and right now the Ulitiles Plugin isn't fixing the problem?

Anyway if its not been mentioned it has now. If it has apologies but its way past my bedtime.

Hi all,
Since the firmware 3.11.0 my Aura HD have a "ghost" image of previous page ( or of the cover after the sleep mode ). There is no change with the update 3.12.0 and i think it will be unchanged in future versions. Version 3.8 is perfect. Do anyone else have this problem ?

I had this same problem with 3.11.0. The ghosting was quite noticeable, so I set my page refresh to 1. After a week or so, I set the page refresh back to 6 and the problem seemed to diminish somewhat. It stilled showed slight ghosting after sleep, but nothing like it had been. Still not sure what was going on, and I have no idea why it stopped. Good luck.

I got rid of them by editing one of each of the duplicate shelves and running the Utilities plugin again.

All duplicated shelves had the same date (January 1, 1970). I believe thats why the Utilities plugin wasn't working, since it lets you keep either the oldest or the newest shelf. Editing one of the offending shelves would create a new shelf with the same name but with the current date.

Thanks for your response i'm happy to not be the only one with this ghosting ! I will stay with 3.8 but now i know how to solve the problem if i will later a newer version of firmware.

Yes, that is correct. And I updated the plugin last night to handle this situation.

I don't know if what I did actually solved anything at all, but the ghosting isn't nearly as bad now as it was. It's still there, but faint, so I can live with it. I asked the same question on this forum that you did, but no one else seemed to have the problem. So, long story short, I have no idea why it started, and no idea why it ended.

If we are just two we'll never have our problem solved. Something is sure for me: the problem is in the new firmware, not in the Aura. My aura is perfect with the version 3.80 ( and before ) with a refresh of 6. I just would know if your ghosting is stronger with a battery full charged than with one 50% charged ? Maybe it's reason because it seems better for you today ?

Sorry for my bad english, i never learned this langage......
