I love paper books! But they are expensive and heavy. It takes so much space in my bag, and ebook-readers are just so convenient already. I only buy paper books if the story deserves it. I don't necessarily mind the covers, but it's the inside content that matters to me most.

I hate reading paper books and avoid it. The only thing I miss about paper books is seeing my book mark make progress as I read the book. There is something ego affirming about reading a thick book that I don't get with ebooks.
But not having to hold a thick book while reading is well worth the trade off. Having a dictionary at the touch of a word? Priceless. |

Since I live in Germany, but read English books, it is always some combination of quicker, cheaper or faster for me to only read ebooks nowadays and as an added bonus it reduces clutter in my home too.

As much as I love how convenient ebook readers are, I plan that one day, I will buy all the paper or hard bound books of the stories I love and keep them all nicely displayed in my personal library. It would definitely be passed on to read to my future children! Hahaha

It's interesting to see how people are making both choices for the same reason: readability. I'm entirely electronic for fiction, the only things I regularly buy in print are RPG manuals.
For me, it's all about the eyes. I can't read a paperback. Period, end of sentence. It's ebook or don't read. |

The roleplayers in my circle are all moving to PDF RPG manuals on iPads. Relatively lightweight, and searchable.

The D&D core books aren't yet available in PDF, and my HD+ is just a bit too small for that size page. (At least for my eyes.) I'd jump on the Samsung 12.2, but I don't have the disposable funding.

Size is part of the issue, another is the presence of gutters. I wouldn't give up completely, but I would read a lot less. Please note though, that I initially mentioned paperbacks, meaning the North American mass market size.

The early Basic Rules and DM's Basic Rules for 5th edition are in PDF; but they're mostly playing non-WotC games atm, from Pathfinder to a variety of others.

Yes, I understood that you meant paperbacks. Just curious what it was about paperbacks in particular that made you unable to read them.

E-books have opened so many doors for me! It has been quite amazing! Authors I'd never head of before getting an e-reader are now among my favorites.
I suppose some folks have the time and money to hunt down a one-hundred year old volume. But when you get it in hand it's liable to be fragile, or smell of dust or mildew or stale tobacco smoke. Ugh! E-reading has connected me to books long out of print and long gone from public library shelves. In these cases the physical, paper book was not an option. |

I probably guess, too small gutters making the text hard to read without almost ripping the book in half. I've had a few of those. For pulp fiction and fantasy, I really like electronic. I'm reading an almost 1,000 page doorstop horror-ish book right now and it's on the eReader at home. It's enjoyable that way. I can't imagine it would be as much fine trying to read the tiny print and struggling with keeping it open.
