Well, after reading a couple of the Campion series, time for a complete change. Now reading the fifth in Alexander Kent's Bolitho series, In Gallant Company. I read many of these many years ago, but they became hard to find in American book stores. And then, of course, I found Patrick O'Brian, and that satisfied my naval cravings for a while. But these are still excellent books, and I'm enjoying my trip back to them. Especially knowing that they are all available in eBook format.

This is Cozy Mystery Week, so I'm trying to prioritize a couple of cozies. Right now I'm reading Saint Peter's Fair, a Brother Cadfael mystery by Ellis Peters, and will be starting The Root of All Evil by Ellery Adams and Elizabeth Lockard.

Have you read any of his WWII books? They are very well done too.

I'm in a space opera mood right now. Perhaps I'll do a reread of Marching Upcountry or Lt Leary or somehing on my TBR. I've been meaning to read To Honor You Call Us for a while.

I keep hearing the Star Wars theme in my mental ear

Hmmm, I don't think I'd have called March Upcountry space opera (more MilSF, I'd have said), but certainly it's always a fun read.

If space opera is what you're thinking of, there's always Agent of Change , the first of the Liaden Universe books from Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. Part of the Baen Free Library. Or, for something with a bit of a twist, but really special IMHO, how about Rosemary Kirstein's The Steerswoman?

I read a couple of them back in the 70's, I think. Somehow less compelling for me than his Bolitho novels. Though as I'm reading this one, I'm reminded of how annoying I found the love interest in these books. A bit too much of a nod to Nelson, IMHO.

An OK issue. The novella seemed to be just a mainstream story, which was odd, but I liked the other stories.

Next up: A recent purchase: Monk's Hood by Ellis Peters. I read most of her Cadfael books (including this one) around the time they were published (over 30 years ago!). So this is a bit of a comfort read. After re-reading the first two in the series, I'm sure I'll enjoy this re-read of her Third Cadfael book.

I just finished Saint Peter's Fair, book #4.

Having just finished Saint Peter's Fair, I'm going to move on to The Root of All Evil, but I'm also reading Kris: The Legend Begins by J. J. Ruscella. Not a cozy, not really fantasy, more of a backstory for the Kris Kringle mythology. I'm about 30% of the way into the book and enjoying it. I borrowed it from the library *solely* based on the cover:

Hey is this a re-read? I always wanted to read the Harry Potter books from the start to finish, in my mind, I only skimmed the books and just looked out for the movie. But doing such would take a lot of time that I haven't got on my hands right now.

Spoiler:
they said harry potter is immortal after killing voldemort? I've been told it was because one of them kills the other and the one lives forever so since it was Harry, he would be forever: the boy who lived. ?

I definitely wouldn't call Cadfael a "cozy mystery". Not cozy at all.

That never happened. I must say some of the theories the fans concocted had far more promise than what the 7th book delivered.

Hearn is good. Look up his New Orleans stuff. "Chita: A memory of Last Island" is a good place to start as it is a novella and under 90 pages. It is based on a real event, though. I have been meaning to read his Japanese stuff for awhile.

You might try breaking the reader's block by re-reading an old favorite? I've done that sometimes.

I decided to read Rosehead by Ksenia Anske. I made a bit of headway but the only reading time I've found is right before bead and I've been quite tired, so I'm only 15% through.

I used the info from Cozy-Mystery.com. "The Brother Cadfael series by Ellis Peters is a very good example of an historical cozy mystery. "

I can see how you might consider this 'not a cozy'. But it matches several of the key criteria which distinguish a cozy: an amateur sleuth; "gentle" books… no graphic violence, no profanity, and no explicit sex; usually takes place in a small town or village. But it fails in several others: the crime-solver is usually a woman; the local police force doesn’t take the amateur sleuth very seriously; tend to be fast-paced, with several twists and turns.

But, I had already checked the book out of the library and the lending clock was ticking -- and I found "permission" on the Cozy-Mystery site, so I'm calling it a cozy for this week.
