I don't like reading long passages of anything on my iMac. I'd never read a novel on it. If an article is more than a few paragraphs, I end up skim-reading it. If it requires clicking a link to get to the next page, I rarely get there.

I am reading this now on an Asus Vivotab Note 8.
Though it's an eight inch tablet, it runs the full version of Windows 8.1. Using an external monitor together with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard I am good. When Intel's 14nm chipsets hit the market in the second quarter of 2015 we will see full windows on phablets. All the lines are blurring. |

I don't enjoy reading books on a computer screen. It's too difficult for my eyes to track across the wider screen.
I use a Kindle or Android tablet for reading e-books. |

So who here reads entire epub novels over 300 pages long (with no pictures) on a 13" or larger screen that has no way to detach the keyboard from it (if, in fact, a keyboard is attached directly to it) ... on Tuesdays?

I do have to set iBooks to Night mode and turn the font size up and the screen brightness way down, though, otherwise the glare is really uncomfortable. And I read in sporadic sessions rather than binge-through the way I would with paper and e-ink. |

I was reading on a Palm TX and on the PC. Mostly PC laptop when I got one. Switched to ASUS T100TA (full Windows 8.1) without keyboard for most non paper reading. Most of my purchases are ebooks now.
Here is my old beat up Toshiba laptop and my ASUS. Book is opened in calibre's book viewer: |

Tuesdays are a horrible, dastardly time to read ebooks on a screen without a detachable keyboard. |

Yup, when I'm home I read on my pc. 90% of my reading is done on my pc, the other 10% is done on my Note 2.
I started out reading Fanfic on my pc, then started reading ebooks on it before I got my first Sony reader. I can read them on my two different Sony reader for pc or if I'm desperate on the ADE software on my pc. I honestly don't care about the format so long as I am able to read! I do some of this, although it's secondary to my handheld device. The first time I ever read Moby Dick was in a web browser on a laptop.
Because I recently switched my desktop monitor from 1280x1024 to 1920x1080, a few days ago I changed the default view in Okular to "Facing Pages", so I can see two pages at once like a paper book. I find that makes it much more comfortable; I've started reading more on my computer. It's nice for pdf, djvu, and epub. |

Sorry for looking shortsighted
![]() Here replies are mixed type, some said they prefer on pc that intrigued. looks like we need to wait more years when cell phone become equally powerful and can be connected to monitor and keyboard something similar to mac mini. till then PC is stuck in the middle ! so for now i cant make any judgement. |

Same for me and my PC. I would have to be pretty desperate to try to read an actual book on the PC. Just not comfortable.

I'm curious as to the reason for the question, when it seems you have pre-determined your answer.

I read on PC (laptop) - news, magazines (still have to zoom on 10" tablet though next time I'll be considering aspect ratio), academic journal articles (same reason), web stories (sometimes also on tablet) and when it's the only device available to me. Like a couple of years ago when my e-ink reader died and I was in a remote location for several months. |

As the question is reading on a PC, I have to say that I do read novels on a PC. However, consider that some "light novels" were written for reading via a browser on the web. I was reading a light novel that had 13 volumes, about 300-450 pages each volume, before I found that both pdf & epub files for each novel were available; downloaded & continued about half-way. Re-reading the early novels now I find I missed some stuff; or they didn't register.
Now on the 14th volume, will have to read on the PC as the translations become available; kind of like volume 13 where reading on the PC is necessary as each chapter is translated & the volume 13 isn't available until all the chapter translations are completed. I don't like to use the browser(s) on a tablet as they are too limiting for what I want to do; even firefox on the tablet is limited in adaptability & restrictive even if it is more adaptive on a PC or Mac. |
