Allreader+ ???
I was doing a search and I saw that no one had mentioned this software?
Hello? I didn't think there was ANYTHING that could get me away from uBook, but this software does seem to be better. At least as far as HTML goes. Take a look: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/prod...duct=allreader The two screenshots really do not capture the flavor of this reader. Those of you reading on a PDA (as I am) check it out. Those who have checked it out already, I am curious what yew thought of it? Is this the killer reader it seems to be, or is there some awful bug or something I have missed? Just curious... ![]() |

I also use AllReader+ when I read on my PDA, and I love it! It is much better than any other reader software I've found for the PDA.

Thanks for mentioning this reader. I've been testing it out and it has everything I need in a reader for my HTC Advantage! Full screen, change buttons to do what I want them to do, folder format to sort out my library how I want. I had tried ubook and various others but I didn't like them.
Mobipocket had been my ereader of choice for years now, it was the only one I felt comfortable with on my smaller screen, that I could find. But the wm version hasn't been updated in years and it has niggly problems which I don't think are ever going to be fixed. Another problem is that even though I can sort the books in reading lists they are all in the one folder and with my largish library I think this started to slow it down when changing books. So I started looking for another reader. Was feeling a bit glum about it not being able to find anything I liked, until now. Thankfully I'm not drm trapped. This is a great reader! So pleased I have a new one, I have a feeling Amazon is letting mobipocket go bung in faovor of their Kindles, it's a shame, could be so much better with just a bit of tweaking. |

The "AllReader+" seems to be a rebrand of the "AlReader" (with one "L") that's been around for a couple of years. The version numbers (2.5) are the same and the navigation icons are identical. Some of the screenshots on the "AllReader" site even show the name "AlReader" in the title bar.
The "AlReader" (with one "L") site seems to offer the application for PDA's and SmartPhones in Russian only. They also have a PC version available in English. I seem to remember hearing about a year ago that "AlReader" was going to go comercial in other languages, but the Russian version would remain free. Perhaps "AllReader+" is the commercial English version. Last edited by Moe The Cat; 04-07-2009 at 06:12 PM. |

Think you are right Moe.
Just to continue on. I had to re do my library. It didn't display the prc files I had in the correct way. Not sure about that, could maybe of tweaked it some to do it but I wanted to read the html files anyway. I had originally converted my html to prc for mobipocket but I was a bit lax with sorting them....and anyway it was a bit of a hassle to get them sorted again, but worth it. So I'm mainly reading html on it. It reads html way better than mobipocket did for my prc files! I found mobipocket would sometimes have larger spaces between paragraphs and sentances, but that was liveable for me. Don't have this problem with allreader. Things that I have found: When I turn page back, it doesn't skip pages, like with mobipocket. It turns pages faster, I used to turn the page a few words before I finished it as mobi had a slight delay. Getting used to it now, and finding I don't have to skip back to catch those last few words I missed. If I want to use the tap screen to page turn I don't have to worry about accidentally highlighting something to look up. When choosing a book from the library I can zip through the list without accidentally loading a book as you have to press the open to get it up, I like that. Those are lots of little things that I didn't think much about before but really enjoying. I also like being able to see how much battery is left and the time without having to go out of full screen mode. I'm using a sync program now to sync the files, much like mobipocket desktop did for my ppc. That's faster too, ![]() Very happy with this ereader. I know I'm raving, but I can't help it when I find something I like. Last edited by bjkel; 04-12-2009 at 08:18 AM. |

Yes, AllReader+ doesn't seem to do Mobipocket prc formatted books. The AllReader+ site states "PDB/PRC (PalmDOC, zTXT mode 1)", which is not Mobipocket prc. But it does support "TXT, HTML, RTF, FB2, DOC, DOCX, ODT, SXW, ABW, ZABW, CHM, PDB/PRC (PalmDOC, zTXT mode 1) and TCR formats", which gives you a lot of formats to play with. I, too, prefer to read straight HTML and AllReader+ handles that just fine.
Have you tried the auto scroll, bjkel? |

Hi Moe, Actually no I haven't tried the auto scroll. It's not a feature I like in any ebook reader. I like to have control of when I go to the next page.
Oh, and I've also learnt just enough about html for being able to insert the covers. I like having the book covers at the beginning. Don't have a clue with html otherwise, but I've learnt that much, well, at a very basic level. ![]() With bought ebooks I do tend to get ms reader .lit for easy conversion to html. I don't want to get caught out with being drm trapped. Used to have to convert to html then to prc. Now it's just to html, hopefully this will cause less clutter on my pc. It got a bit messy with the html files ending up in various places and some deleted, but luckily I kept my main copies. Last edited by bjkel; 04-12-2009 at 08:42 AM. |
