Scrolling

Kris, I have great respect for Marvin and your amazing work developing it. You've added so many features in the past year that I'm surprised that you haven't yet integrated vertical scrolling (though I see it will be added soon).

If you don't mind, I would be curious to know your thinking about this. Is the delay the result of technical issues in programming vertical scrolling? Or is your feature rollout schedule simply the result of your priorities--meaning that you have concluded that the features rolled out so far are more desirable, and therefore higher priority, than scrolling?

For me, vertical scrolling is the final, critical piece to make Marvin complete, and would have liked to have had it earlier, but obviously opinions vary about its significance.

It's just a matter of priorities. The last update covered a highly requested feature (cover view) and the next one will cover another very popular one. I'm working on each feature request in order of how often people request it.

After the next update, I'll be focusing on fixing a ToC bug that's been around for a while and after that I have vertical scrolling and highlight/note/bookmark syncing to work on. Both of these features are rather complex so I don't have a timeline yet. I'm hopeful that both will be available within the next few months.

I am adding my request to up the chances of getting auto-scroll implemented (haha!).
Hopefully it will scroll like end-movie credits, something which another ePub reader,
uBooks, does very well.

I've also tried all Android ePub readers and their so-called "auto-scroll" is terrible.

I just wanted to add my voice to those looking forward to vertical scrolling. I subscribed to mobileread just so I could request it. Unlike a lot of features, scrolling/page turning is a part of the UI that's constantly front and center. I still occasionally load a book into iBooks just for the vertical scroll option. Otherwise Marvin is the best ebook app out there, and it'll be nice to use it exclusively.

ADE style page numbers and publisher CSS with the options are much more important things that need to be addressed before scrolling can even be a thought.

I respect your views but I don't agree. I personally don't care about ADE style page numbers and publisher CSS. And since vertical scrolling has been implemented in Gerty I don't imagine it would be terribly challenging to introduce the feature to Marvin.

Well, a lot of people do care about the features I mentioned. More then care about scrolling. The thing is, ADE style pages numbers are useful for finding where you are when you are using Marvin and an ADE based Reader to read the same book. Being able to use publisher CSS and then be able to tweak it from there helps to taylor the eBooks to look as wanted if possible. The look of the eBook is a lot more important then scrolling.
