I looked on eBay today; there are about 25 for sale and most are going for $300 and up. The fact that they're scarce and it's the Christmas season must be why someone actually bought one for $710. I'm trying to control my must-have-new-gadget-itis until Amazon puts them into general release, even if that's a year from now.

I intend to use mine primarily as a hands free radio. Since it doesn't support Pandora natively, I'm in the process of building customs stations in iHeartRadio. Very tedious work. Well worth the $99.

Later on, I'll play around with some of its other features and to see how well it works as a Bluetooth speaker with my gadgets.

Yes, I requested an invite, but so far no joy. A poster on the Amazon Kindle boards claims he/she was told by Amazon Customer Service that the release to the general public is a long way off, so the crazy high prices on eBay will continue for awhile yet.

Well, I hope you get an invite. It's great device. I love the speaker. Plenty of bass and no distortion.

I'd love to see more apps added -- Audible, OverDrive, Scribd, LibriVox, Pandora, Live365, Spotify, Stitcher, Slacker, etc.

It's a beautiful design, flawed by a power cord. I bet Echo II gets a rechargeable battery and a matching charging station. Then it would look great on a coffee table or dining room table.

And I was figuring these would be selling for a fortune on eBay....can't fault those selling them...

My biggest concern is how quickly Amazon turns first gen devices either obsolete or into abandonware . For that reason I was thinking of holding off to 6-8months when 2.0 will show up.

Good! I don't mind being a first adopter. I'm getting a great bluetooth speaker with a built-in hands free internet radio and music player. That's well worth $99. If this is all I ever get out of it, it's money well spent.
