My tub of Horlicks has told me that the origin of "sleep tight" comes from Shakespeare's times when apparently mattresses were laid on ropes tied across the bedframe - you'd pull the ropes tighter to make the mattress firmer.

huh. all my tub of horlicks says is that "in some cultures people believe that if you have the same dream three times it will become reality."

Well, the skeptic in me doubts it, as does World Wide Words, and the cynic in me would never trust the words of anything that has as its sole purpose the nefarious notion of intentionally putting you to sleep.

Thankfully, only one of the things that frequently crops up in my dreams has ever become reality. However, I shall continue to avoid paternoster lifts just in case the one I'm in ever becomes sentient.
