Released ScreenSavers v0.21.N, which *should* ensure compatibility with FW 5.6.x

Isn't it an official forum recommendation NOT to use rar?

@eschwartz: It's also a forum requirement not to let me use decent compression algorithms/formats, and limiting uploads to 20MB, so, kind of stuck on that one .

Huh, what about that.

Perhaps add a note somewhere about the need for programs which can unpack rar. I mean, the only reason zip gets used so much is because it is built into Windows. I would guess there will be people who don't know how to unpack it.

Like the way you warn people of the need for 7-zip/tar, in the snapshots thread.

The legacy stuff has been using rar archives since pretty much the beginning, and I've hardly ever had anyone complaining about it, so I'm going to assume rar support is fairly ubiquitous, even in Windows-land .

(Hell, I remember stuff being shared as multi-part rar archives on freaking floppy disks ;D).

As far as I know, that was just me sounding off about not using licensed, for-fee archivers.

* The de-compressor(s) is(are) Open Source but some of the compression routines remain closed and licensed.

What we **should** do is get that list of acceptable filename extensions updated.
Lots of luck with that, I haven't heard from Alex for over a year.

Good enough for me.
I meant the Kindle Developers Corner subforum.

The size is somewhat of an issue though -- for a set of archive formats, it is bizarre that ZIP and RAR have a 20 MB cap, GZ has a 15 MB cap, and BZ2 has a 5 MB cap!!!

Good luck contacting him. He has posted in response to the server migration, in the announcements subforum.

How can i make it work ? Thank you

You cannot. See the last few posts in the jailbreak thread.

tl;dr -- that upgrade is evil, it was warned aginst, and now you're screwed unless you know how to use a serial port.

@arad26: Like @eschwartz, I'm assuming you're talking past tense, before the updated JailBreak came out.

In which case, yup, what he said .

On the other hand, if you are doing stuff in the right order, and you were running JB >= 1.13.N before updating, just update KUAL and use the MR Installer to update the SS hack.

cover screensavers not working on kindle touch

I have set the screensaver mode to cover but when I press the power button it comes up with "The ScreenSavers Hack is currently in 'cover' mode, but hasn't yet successfully processed a book cover " (by the way that smiley in the talking marks is the actual writing not the smiley

I have made sure to make the cover file a proper blank file in my kindle root and have got the latest jailbreak for a compatible version of kindle. (5.3.7.2) I have done all the steps and am not inexperienced with these things and have done lots on my kindle 4 nt. There was a few posts about this earlier on in the thread but the guy with the problem didn't follow up on it. I have also set the time right (not sure where the date is for Kindle touch) and deleted autoreboot and then tried it with autoreboot as well. here is the default kindle metadata and the calibre metadata for a book though they are only screenshots I don't know how to find just the metadata so here is the whole book aswell. I have tried this with quite a few books yet none work.

also seeing as this is my first post thank you to all those main contributors in this forum you have been a massive help.

edit - actually it turns out this doesn't work on kindle 4 nt either. It seems highly likely that the problem is with the books although I've even gone to the effort of downloading new and full metadata off calibre yet it still won't work. so if it is with the books I've tried so many what book metadata actually does work?

@hokagetonton: That very much sounds like the date/time is messed up on your device(s). If you see the placeholder screensaver, cover mode is enabled, so you're good on that front (and autoreboot is irrelevant here, even more so on a K5, where it's fairly useless).

Note that Calibre isn't magic, you actually have to re 'Send To Device' updated books for the metadata to take . [That said, except on very broken books, you should be okay with straight-from-AMZ books].

On the K5, you'll have to keep a book open for ~10s before the cover is locked on (should be faster on a K4, on the other hand). If your device is extremely busy (indexing), then the timing can go haywire. Check that it's not busy indexing, then try again.

@NiLuJe - I did a restart of the testing PW2 last night and it said something like screensaver [hack] setting up. This is the second time I've seen this on a restart. It's the same message you see when you first install the hack through MRI. Is this normal behavior? I did the two restarts [on different days] because it was unresponsive.
