I prefer ebooks for fiction but prefer paper books for how-to's, cookbooks and reference books.

Same. I used to be able to switch back and forth, but the last time I tried to read a pbook about a year ago - I found it so awkward and unwieldy that I ended up buying the ebook version when it went on sale.

I do still read and use large books with pictures, but those are crafting or coffee table books.

I prefer to read paper, but I have no room. I find paper to be easier to on my eyes.

Paper tends to be less
likely to contain the errors that can stiII plague ebooks. (I saw this stuff in an ebook just yesterday.)

I read both pbooks and ebooks.
  • For portability, ease of borrowing/buying, decluttering, and oftentimes for price, ebooks can't be beat.
  • However, I prefer reading art/photography/picture books, textbooks, and technical manuals in paper form.
  • I also like reading periodicals in paper form, but I do so only in waiting rooms or at the library, bookstore, or others' homes; I don't want them cluttering my home, so those read regularly I consume digitally.
  • If I'm keen on reading a book that's only available in pbook form at that time, then I'll (reluctantly) take the pbook. [I had to do that earlier this month, when books 4 (The Sacrifice) and 5 (The Fallen) in Charlie Higson's The Fear series were only available at my libraries in pbook form.
  • I prefer reading the Holy Bible in pbook form (despite having several versions in my e-library).
  • And, of course - as someone posted upthread - I only take paper books to the beach, in my case both to protect my ereader from the elements and so I won't worry about leaving it unattended while I'm in the water.

I always take a paper book when I go camping. Partly as a backup in case my ereader breaks (hasn't happened yet), but also because unlike an ebook it can be used as toilet paper or to start a fire if necessary.

Downbelow Station is available as an ebook now.

I love to reread my favourite books and series so I have collected a lot of paperback books. I do reread them regularly.

But, for new books, I choose ebooks instead of paperbacks or hardcovers. Not because I dislike ebooks, but because of the greater portability and storage.

The only exception is nonfiction. For business books I regularly refer to, I prefer a physical book.

But for nonfiction it is almost always ebooks with the exception of a few garage sale purchases.

Occasionally. You can often get better deals for used paperbacks and I trade them back in for credit to keep piles of books from accumulating.

And that's heresy! I couldn't even put a dogear in my book, let alone rip its pages out to be use as toilet paper or even worse, burning...

And I bring 2 ereaders with me when I go camping. I once got stuck on the top of a mountain (a true story), with only half of a book remaning to read for 3 days (and nothing else to do but reading and sleeping). I vowed then and there: Never again! (so the next time I brought 4 books, only managed to finish 1 in that entire week, since then I started reading electronically...)

I read exclusively e-books, I use many pbooks though. Basically I only use reference books in paper (which are MUCH preferred in paper) anything where I would read through from front to back is in electronic form. For pleasure reading, anything that isn't in electronic form is either ignored or, in some special cases, acquired in pbook form then "converted" to electronic form for actual reading.

I read almost exclusively e-book format now. I can't help it but I would rather purchase a book and put it on my Kindle or Fire or iPad or ANYTHING electronic and portable.

I bought a small stack of paper books a month ago and I have accepted the fact that I am going to have to repurchase those as e-books in order to actually read them after having aborted the reading of two of them in paper.

Ugh.

True.

They both get tied into the Amazon debate, 1984 must've stuck in my mind somehow.
