  • click -- "End Membership" one more time
  • click -- "End Later" (that's the date it's currently set to expire)

Now start buying
  • go here -- Give the Gift of Prime
  • select date you want Prime delivered to your inbox - usually day after current one expires
  • and yes, you can gift yourself
  • click -- "Add Prime to Cart"
  • select your qualifying Kindle and add to cart
  • then follow the usual purchasing steps
  • note: both items must be purchased together to get the $40 discount
  • note: the $40 discount will appear in the final ordering step
Thanks for that. My DIL wants a Paperwhite for Christmas. This will be a better deal than Black Friday.

YW; but the thanks really belong to Nate.

$79 for a Paperwhite 2 is a fantastic deal. In fact, $40 off all of the lower priced Kindles and Fires will beat any of the Black Friday offers out there.

What does it include? Is Prime just free shipping? I know there is a difference between U.S. and Canadian Prime.

It looks like Canada prime is only free shipping.

Yes that was what I thought too. Free shipping only. Well, I better stay with the Kobo deal to get $40 off.

The Paperwhite 2 will also be on sale during BF for $20 off.
When I bought my new Kindle 4 (NT) -- which I passed on to someone else, right before I found out they weren't going to make them anymore -- it was sale priced for $49 and I was able to use the 5 payment offer. At least in my case they combined the offers. And it didn't cost a cent more than paying in full.

Yeah, the deal has no fees or interest, it's just splitting the price up over 5 months. The first month is a bit higher because they charge you tax up front.

I personally went for that because I couldn't afford the full price of a Paperwhite in one go and wanted to get Mom the better model. Even $20 off would have been too much at once for me right now. And I'm pretty sure that's what Amazon is aiming for with the deal, people who'd like a nicer Kindle or Kindle Fire but can't quite pay for it up front.

And now to help Dad find her a new tablet he can actually afford. Her 2012 Nexus 7 is starting to get too slow to be usable.

You might sign up for the Fry's emails--they are going HOG WILD with sales this year. Most are instore and I forgot to look at your location, but if you're in the US where there is a store, it might be worthwhile. I'm a Tiger Direct associate, but I haven't seen any tablet sales yet (I asked for special notification for e-readers and can add tablets to the list). I'll post here if I see any. Tiger Direct is usually one day or "until supplies run out." So far the Fry's ads have had better savings. They had a laptop yesterday for under 250. The tablet was a Galaxy 4, not a nexus. But they've been sending out some good deals.

Unfortunately there's no Fry's even in my state, closest one is about 6 hours away I think. I'm keeping an eye out, but not totally sure on what to go for yet. She needs at least a 7" Android tablet (ideally 7", as heavier may cause her problems holding it for long periods). I'm thinking that $125 Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 at Office Depot on BF may work, if it's available online. Unfortunately the Kindle Fires are out, as Amazon's carousel launcher confuses her badly. (She's used my 1st gen Kindle Fire some, and always has troubles with that.) I saw there's an $89 deal on those.

The carousel confuses my neighbor too. When she first got it I was over there all the time trying to explain how to find books. She'd find a book on Amazon, not realize she was linked to Amazon and think she owned it and could not figure out how to read it. She drove me a bit nuts for a while.

Fry's has been VERY stingy with the online deals. If I happen to notice anything in the email that is online, I'll post here. I would imagine they would do SOMETHING for cyber Monday, but they've been hitting the "instore" pretty hard. They even had a SANDWICH on sale last ad. Seriously?

Tiger Direct deals have all been big--tvs and the like. Who watches tv when they could be reading???
