I kinda messed up and made the Opf file open with notepad (I needed to change the info inside of this file) Now it will not upload to calibre the info inside ANY opf. How can I fix this? Thanks Chris There are 3 item that make up a calibre record. The first is the ebook, the second is the cover, the 3rd is an OPF file which contains all the text that show up when you download all the metadata for a ebook (or in my case a Mobi, or an AZW book Last edited by Eagleone 55; 11-20-2014 at 05:53 PM. |

What OPF, and what are you trying to do with it? Can you explain more? I am not clear on what happened. |

You should not change, delete or rename ANY files in the library, author and book folders directly - look but don't touch. The metadata.opf files exist for one purpose only, to restore/rebuild the main database should that ever be needed - I've been using calibre for almost three years, I have never needed to rebuild a database. Delete the opf file and the .txt file, then make some trivial change to the book metadata - e.g. change the rating, add a tag... and save the metadata. That will create a new metadata.opf file Now what are you actually trying to do? That OPF file is a backup of the metadata in the database. It should be left alone, the only thing renaming it will do is leave an orphaned file in your calibre library -- and deprive you of the backup. Fortunately, calibre will recreate it next time you edit the metadata. It is not meant to be opened in the viewer either. In fact, it is not shown in the UI at all. What are you trying to accomplish here? There is probably a better way. Last edited by eschwartz; 11-20-2014 at 06:18 PM. |

BR's advice will restore the file you corrupted. In windows, you can change the default application. Control Panel: Default Programs: Set associations: (follow the tip: I suggest a Text editor like Notepad ) To clear all associations, I believe a Regedit will be needed (not recommended for novices) |

Having your opf files set to open with notepad will in no way hinder the operation of calibre. I have my opf files set to open with Notepad++.

There was a bug in the last version of Calibre which was loading the OPF files as actual books, and basically ignoring the information in the file. If you want Calibre to pay attention to the OPF file when you load the book to load the metadata, and you have the 2.10 version, upgrade to the newest version that was released today, which should fix the issue, if I'm understanding what you are trying to do.

The bug did not cause calibre to ignore the information in the OPF file, simply to add it as an extra format.
