This has also been reported for Aura here. (Please look at this post too.)
Would be interesting whether this happens on all Aura and H2O. Could you tell me which firmware you are running? And whether you did downgrade at some point to an older firmware without doing a factory reset since then?

Some minor errors occur with KSM 6.

The screen is turned upside down. It seems more scripts need mention of Dahlia.
I've seen it occur when:
- powering off: the poweroff message is upside down
- I loop koreader/Nickel: starting in Nickel and changing to koreader: koreader is upside-down.

When I select a line in KSM, all lines shift a line and back before actually starting anything. Is this normal behavior?

Terrible! Let us start with poweroff, if you like. Could you try poweroff.sh from this post. It will write a small log file (I would like to know what rotation value the scripts tries to set). There is now also a variable "rotateTestvalue". Could you please experiment with it?

No, it this is not normal. I do not know the cause. Could you try changing the font size in usersettings.txt?

Nice. I can't experiment until Sunday, though. My lady has reacquired the birthday gift until we celebrate on Saturday. Can't argue with childhood sentiments, apparently. (I tried and failed.)

I still have the Kobo FW 3.5.0 on my AuraHD, your instructions have us uninstall old KSM, but the Uninstall options only go up to: KoboRoot_3.3.1_3.4.1. Is that the one I should be using? Is there an optimal FW to be running with? (I don't use Nickel or the Kobo software, so I am not interested in the functioning of kobo's readers or other features.)

Luck;

3.3.1 to 3.8.0 can all use the same uninstall package.

As for an optimal FW, I do not know. I tested those 3 mentioned. All worked fine.

Even if you do not use nickel, it should at least be able to run for emergency reasons. But of course, you have your back up sd.

Found the device!

No screen rotation with your script. No log file was generated, though.
(With the poweroff in the main menu the screen is still rotated.)

EDIT: Oddly enough, changing the fontsizes in usersettings.txt does not result in a change in the menu. kbmenu terminal has a rather large keyboard, though.

I realize only now, that you call the power-off script from the menu. I first thought the problem occurred when you powered off from nickel. (But probably you did not enabled this function. And I think this might be better so.)

The executable that displays the power-off text displays also the text if you select "info" from the main menu. Is there also the screen rotation?

I'm on 3.11 and i have not downgraded the firmware.
It does a real reboot, with a blinking led. When i try to start nickel it get's to the fourth dot while loading and then it lights up the screen for a while. Screenlight goes off and then the screen goes blank and it reboots.

I think this effect would also occur if there is a KoboRoot.tgz in the .kobo folder. Do you have by chance one there? I guess no, and hope yes. In the main menu there would appear an option "handle updates".

On my AuraHD FW 3.5.0, with KSM version6, my Poweroff image is upside down.

Took me awhile to find and make the changes to have Koreader open with the File Manager in the right directory, on my external uSD card. It used to just take setting the argument for reader.lua in your onstart/koreader_kobo.sh.

I set the AutoStart to launch Koreader after 10sec.

So far so good.

Luck;
Ken

Good point! I meant of course to say that it is the same executable that displays the two texts.
In that case it would be better not to write at all to /sys/class/graphics/fb0/rotate in this situation (I mean when nickel is not involved).
I think we should investigate the rotate value at certain points. I will prepare something.

This needs some investigation.

I see, this changed in update 1 to version 4. The idea was to give the control over the start script to the koreader developers.

Did you remove the # in front of kobomenuFontsize, and reboot the device?
----

If you or anybody (I think only Aura HD and Aura H2O are concerned) would like to make an experiment, I have prepared two new files (ksmhome.sh and poweroff.sh). Both go to .kobo/kbmenu/onstart (poweroff.sh can go of course to any place from where you can start it). Note: The poweroff screen will be up side down again in this case. So do not be surprised about that.

In usersettings.txt remove the # in front of
Code:
# KSMdebugmode=true
Restart the device and power it down (with the new poweroff.sh).

In the root you should find some log files. I post the entries we are interested in (since my device does not turn the screen, these values are of course boring, but I hope yours will be exciting):

ksmdebug_20141120_201443_ksmhome.sh.log
Code:
fbrotatevalue before dragon-dahlia special: 0
fbrotatevalue after dragon-dahlia special: 0
ksmdebug_20141120_201454_poweroff.sh.log
Code:
actualrotatevalue: 0
inheritedrotatevalue: 0
setrotatevalue: 0
After you have got some results and shared it with us, delete the debug files and disable debug in usersettings.txt again. Otherwise you will end up with a lot if log files.
