Sorry. I thought it was obvious.

For days, you have been telling us that there are sixty-something reviews on Amazon's UK site with only 1 of the lower rated reviews mentioning the screen gradient.

Now it is 4 out of 96. So of the thirty-something new reviews, there have been 3 screen complaints.

I admit to being jealous. If mine had a great screen I would have likely kept it, all else equal. I would have needed a nice, grippy silicone case, but other than that I think I would have kept it.

HarryT, I guess I should have said: "none of my Voyage has any striking gradient issue"
It is not visibly yellow on top and visibly blue on the bottom. (well, I guess once can argue that it somewhat is, but eh, to me it's not really)
The picture comparison, though, shows that it's a little brighter on the bottom of the screen. But this is seriously invisible to me with eye only, and visible on picture only with the light at a very high setting. I don't think we can expect better from the Voyage as of now.

(I included the gradient test pictures)

I'm guessing some people have duller sensitivity to colour gradient than the others, after all some animals are colour-blind completely.

I'm glad that amazon is recognizing that the colour-gradient on their premium reading device which is being advertised as "paper-like" is unacceptable.

Too bad that the problem seems to be present in a lot of devices going by reports of users who do see the colour gradient. I'd be willing to try a few devices on amazon's dime tho and would encourage people who are unhappy with their Voyages to do so as well, so we would get more accurate reports on how widespread the problem is.

This is probably the best Voyage screen picture I've seen here. I, personally, wouldn't have an issue with this Voyage -- but most of the others posted here, would definitely not be acceptable. (Provided they looked the same to the naked eye as they do in the photographs.)

I'm only on my first Voyage, and I found that mine is also pretty tolerable at the maximum brightness, but it's when set it between 8-20 brightness that it's far more noticeable. To me that is a lot more important, because honestly, how often do you ever actually use it on full brightness? However, brightness around 8-12 is what I use all the time when reading in bed in the pitch black, and the experience is soured on the Voyage screen

Your pictures are an excellent illustration of the fact that this is primarily an issue of personal perception, because they all look absolutely fine to me.

Don't assume, either, that you can solve the problem by switching to a different type of reader: my Kobo Aura H2O shows a brightness gradient just like the Voyage (meaning that I don't see it visually, but I can see it on a photograph by copying/pasting the top of the screen at the bottom).

It may well be that frontlit screens are simply not to your taste, if this is a problem for you. Perhaps you should consider the unlit basic Kindle instead?

Assuming that your photos are a good representation of what they're like in real life, I find that colour gradient really, really noticeable, and it would be unacceptable to me also. How has Kindle, with such a very expensive 'luxury' reader, managed to fall so far behind Kobo in this particular area? Especially when they had all the colour-splotch issues with the PW1, which they seem to have solved?

But have they? I posted, in a different thread, a side-by-side comparison of my Voyage alongside my Kobo H2O, and they showed an approximately equal brightness gradient. Happy to take another photograph if you'd like to see the comparison.

It's the colour gradient, not the brightness gradient, that bothers me. Did I not say that?

You might not be able to see it. Not everyone can. That's not a matter of some people being whiny special snowflakes, it's just a physical difference in colour perception.

I'm not suggesting for a moment that anyone is being whiny. In fact, I specifically said that it was a matter of perception a couple of posts ago.

Here's a photograph I've just taken of my Voyage (left) and Kobo (right) side-by-side. Can you tell me how much of a colour gradient you can see in each screen, please? I adjusted the brightness so the two screens appeared of equal brightness to me.

You haven't said whiny - others have - wasn't rebutting you directly there.

Your Voyage is blue at the bottom and pink at the top. In addition the colour is a bit uneven horizontally, especially in the pink zone. Kobo - creamier colour overall, brightness gradient, no colour gradient. A little more shadowing at the bottom of the screen than the Voyage. Voyage looks like the brightness is turned up a little more than the Kobo.

Thanks. It's quite difficult to judge whether the brightnesses of the two are the same, because they look very different: the Voyage is (to my eyes) white, whereas the Kobo has a yellow tinge to it.
