I could never stand to read with a back lit reader in a completely dark room, need a lamp or some bit of light. At best the white text on black background was somewhat tolerable.

I can't stand to read on it in light or dark now. It's too bright! I can't stand to play games either because Screen Dim keeps crashing and I get blinded. It doesn't matter what app I am in it's too bright. Brighter than a KFv1 at Minimum. I'd say minimum is now 20% on my KF HD 7 it's changed that much.

Which update page so do we use with a Kindle Fire HD 7 (2013)? Amazon's help pages are mess. Last time I found it through Google.

I totally agree and am totally confused regarding updates for the various HDX(s) .. I also have the 2013 models of both the 7 and 8.9.

The software update page is still showing OS 4.1.1 for the Fire HDX 8.9 (2013), even though it has already been upgraded to OS 4.5.1.

I just saw that the HD6 now has the update to 4.5.1. Mine didn't get it yet, I'll wait for OTA

Which HD 7 do you have?

2014 - Gen 3 --> v20.4.5.1
2013 - Gen 2 --> v11.4.5.1
2012 - Gen 1 --> v7.5.1

Go here and choose your tablet.

Thanks I found it through Google finally. I'm all updated got all the new apps too.

Me too I've yet to get OTA update on the KF since moving from TN to NC. They all have been Manual.
