Thanks, Zee! That's a terrific video. I'm impressed and would love to talk with someone who has stuff like that going on in his head. I also want to know how long it took for him (them?) to do it. It looks like very many days. And many gallons of paint. Note how the white paint becomes grey as he repeatedly paints over it. The website has a lot of interesting art work you might like, too, including many walls like these: http://www.blublu.org/sito/walls/2008/008.htm

This reminds me, strangely, of the animations by Jan Svanmajer.

i love Svankmajer !!!! i don't know if i would have necessarily made the comparison but i agree they're both brilliant.

if you like him you should take a look at the Quay Brothers too. they're amazing.

Anywhere to see any of his work online?? Or is that not a possibility?? Yeah, I know, I'm being lazy or I'd try to find one on my own. But, I've been up to my knees in sawdust all morning and I'm barely able to talk my fingers into moving.

As usual, there is a fair amount on You Tube, including:

(which reminds me of some project planning meetings...)

and, though it should probably be avoided by sensitive souls (it has various potentialy disturbing organs, including brain and tongue... you have been warned.):

There is another of his short films I can't find that involves more of things coming out of other things, which I think was what I connected with the BluBlu (or whoever did the film), possibly together with the use of stop motion.

(Whilst you're on YouTube, have a look for The Flat by him which was the first of his stuff I saw, and did really impress me when I saw it back in the 80's.)

Well, I can certainly understand why the one artist reminded you of the other. It's not so much the medium as the thought behind the pieces.

I think I have seen the one where the man is assembled in the room before. Probably at the animation festival they have in San Diego every year. I'm almost certain I would have seen it there.

Brilliant work. I wish I was a quarter that talented.

I hate to bring a commercial element into this, but one of my favourite advertistments of all time involved an animated organ. It received some complaints, and generally polarised people (half were revolted by it; half loved it - I was obviously in the latter half), but...well, here it is:

I even like the music.

Cheers,
Marc

It also explains why you sometimes wake up feeling like your tongue has been dragged in gravel and dirt.
