My experience is a little different
I usually buy the gift card in the new Zealand store and at the checkout I change the address to the country where I will buy the books (I started with India but since the contest codes no longer work there I recently changed to the US), so when I redeem the gift card the balance is in US dollars, but if for any chance I want to buy something in the Indian store the balance is converted to rupees. Also I’m able to multitab with the gift card, the last time I did it was in the last contest (November 3th) however I can’t multitab while paying with paypal, but I must say I haven’t tried it recently, since the gift card works for me. |

If anyone wondered about the reach that this thread has with respect to the mention of a good special have a look at the results on the Kobo India Top 50 list. Yep, the children's books as mentioned above now number quite a few in that list.
Of course this isn't the first time that a Top 50 list has been influenced by comments here, remember the Kobo India 3c sale earlier this year with books like Nigella Lawson etc etc etc all priced from say 2 to 3 cents up to say 10 or so cents each. And of course events went viral with the 90% off unlimited code and someone apparently even posted it on Twitter and/or Facebook (idiots!!). Each to their own views on this point, but I don't want to see a 'how to guide' for tips and tricks attached to the first post in the thread. I'd rather that the info was made available only when someone posts and requests help - the same way that they do now, to MR members who are regular/irregular posters in this thread. I can't recall a time when a member wasn't helped, so the current system seems to work well. I wouldn't want to spoil it. ![]() Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 11-16-2014 at 07:49 PM. Get35 and Harlequin
I got an email that the Kobo U.S. store is having an unlimited use 35% off coupon this weekend, but it is not working for me.
One of the publishers that I have been able to count on for always offering discounts is Harlequin and I just tried the Get35 coupon with 2 different books and it didn't work. Anyone know anything that I don't as to why this wouldn't work? |

Somewhere above is a link to the list of books that work with that code until Nov 20. I can't get the link to work without my associate code. Once I put the code in my browser, I don't know how to get it out. I even tried opening a new browser, but even when clicking on it through kobo's first page, as soon as I get to the sale page, I can see my associate link again. |

Yep, that Get35 promotion was a little misleading. Simply said 'unlimited use coupon' and exhorted the recipient to 'fill your library' without any mention that there was a select list of titles. Like others, I guess, I went directly to Kobo and tried to use the code on some books without success. Turns out you had to click on the 'Browse Now' button in the email to see the titles on offer. Mostly romance and sci-fi, if I remember correctly. Not my cup of tea. I'm still on Perkopolis, when it works.

Paul just a comment that each country that the 'GET35' unlimited use code applies to will have its own set of books. I note that the link you currently have next to it probably relates to the US. Perhaps it's best that no reference is made or merely the suggestion to look for the link on the front page of kobobooks.com.
The same situation for 'Grt50dis' and probably the others because the books on the list are all country dependent. Anyway that's my 2 cents. ![]() |

In the case of Grt50dis, although the US and Canadian lists are separate and pull up a mostly-different set of books, you can still access and discount the US books from a Canadian account and vice versa. You won't be able to actually see anything that's not available in your target country (e.g. the Ian Hamilton book in its Canadian edition, which is not available in the US), but you can still apply the coupon to an "out-of-country" list book successfully, which is something I initially checked in my Canadian account with a book only on the US list before posting the code, and just now in my US account with a similar non-US book from the Canadian list. So if the lists for UK/AU/NZ & South Africa also pop up here eventually, I'd imagine the same terms of usage would apply, expanding the potential pool of books that people might be interested in getting. In any case, there is no direct link or other obvious indication whatsoever on the Kobo website frontpage for the Grt50dis code (at least, not for the Canadian, US, or UK stores that I could see), so quite probably via the links given in the promo emails are the only way to access it anyway. |

Good news: I was able to use some of the Comeback codes on the first page for a second time, they must have been reset recently.
Bad news: most of the big publishers that accepted promo codes in New Zealand have just in the last few days increased their NZ prices by 10-25%, perhaps an over-reaction to the NZ/US exchange rate falling by 5% in the last few months. |

The other book was $19.95NZD but I was able to buy it for only $6.20NZD from India, and I didnt even use a coupon for it. Thats a huge difference. I simply do not understand how they can justify setting such high prices for ebooks in NZ. We have always paid so much more than other countries for our books and our 'remote' location and extra shipping costs have always been the main reason given for paper books. But I just dont see where the extra cost for ebooks comes from. They are electronic, theres no significant shipping costs involved. Why are we being charged up to, and even more than, double what the same books cost in other countries?? Last edited by Chapter One; 11-18-2014 at 03:39 AM. |

Prices seem to be up everywhere. I don't know if it's because they think people will pay higher prices with Christmas coming or what. I noticed that Amazon got rid of a few discounts on my print books (they usually discount them a dollar). I posted before that a couple of books I was watching for a lower prices to talk about on my blog went from 5.99 (amazon discount) to 9.99 when the agreement was signed between Amazon and S&S. I won't be buying or blogging either of the books. It's weird. You'd think with Christmas coming there'd be sales or incentives to get a book noticed. It's going the other way!
