Dresden Files changes from Philip Marlowe with magic to Indiana Jones with magic starting with Grave Peril, best book is Dead Beat.
He actually said his best book is Dead Beat?? Or is that a quote from the person who put that info together??

It's nice to see this so well spelled out, and I believe it's what made me back off of the series, even though I'm often tempted to go back to it. I don't read a lot of "regular" fantasy (whatever that really is). I find all the politics boring (not a fan of Game of Thrones, either).

Sigh....but I miss the people and the world I grew attached to...so something I think I should give it a try again.

Yes, definitely give it a try again! I don't mind the politics too much. It speaks more through action and each factions secret agenda.

Yes, (I put that info together from multiple sources, two to be exact) all text in the quote box was directly quoted.

You know, I'm kind of ashamed to admit it, but I HATE steampunk.
Hate hate hate it.
I don't know why. It just jars me. Every time I see some drawing of a zepplin with 25 tons of unnecessary gears and steam engine, it just makes me mad.
I for one am not excited for the Cinder Spires.
BUT
If Jim is gonna branch out and try something completely new, then, good for him. Sure it makes waiting for Dresden even harder, but I'd rather he experiment in a new series, than realllllly screwing up Dresden.

Also, it's been pretty crazy in my little world here, so I'm still here, but just not incredibly active. Hi's to all the usual suspects, and anyone new here in the Dresdenverse.

There's a really simple solution to your phobia concerning the associated artwork.

DON'T LOOK AT IT!!!

Quit associating the hated illustrations with the story!

Oh, if only I had thought of that!
No, it's not just the illustrations, Alan, it's the whole concept. It's just something that I don't like.
But, I am very interested to see what the rest of you guys think of it!

So you hated 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Mysterious Island, From the Earth to the Moon, The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Island of Doctor Moreau, and The First Men in the Moon, just to cite a few antecedents of the genre. That's really too bad. Each to his own, I suppose.

Is Around The World In Eighty Days really considered steampunk?
(Incidentally the one book on your list I read (and enjoyed).)
