It is frustrating when people say they prefer the PW2 over the Voyage and don't say why or say the PW2 is much better than the PW1 but don't give even a hint how.

I've given my examples so many times on MR that doing it once again would be redundant.

Thanks all for your responses. I finally upgraded to the PW2 and yes, it has a better ("whitier") screen and contrast than the PW1 and mine has 4GB. Got it at Staples. I tried THREE Voyages but all had the "cloud" in the top part of the screen. Could not live with that and think it costs $200.00.

Each one of those are the reasons why I went with the PW2 over the KV. Congrats and enjoy!

Nice! Glad you're happy, enjoy it. I far prefer the PW2 over the voyage too. (As mentioned above.. )

Hey - to explain further:

I'm really torn. I have a Paperwhite 1 with Wi-Fi and 3G, and I was excited when I read early reviews of the new Voyage and the clearer screen. I ordered it, but got the Wi-Fi only version due to the price.

I just received it yesterday, and immediately remembered how frustrating it could be to be limited to wi-fi, when setting it up. I guess my home network goes in and out, and that caused some frustrations. Also, I like to plan ahead, but sometimes decide to buy a book when I am out somewhere or traveling. (My phone used to offer the hotspot feature but on my current plan it does not..) As a third consideration, as wonderful as the Voyage screen is, the software seems a little buggy to me. Maybe that's related to the wi-fi issues though. Books would download and not finish, and I had to restart the Kindle to get them to appear. Finally, I read that the battery life may be better on the PW than the Voyage; don't know if this is true.

For the price I paid for the Voyage, I could get a PW2 with 3G, and what I have heard is a slightly improved screen over my current PW1. And of course more storage space.

Right now I am keeping the Voyage wrapped in its plastic shell and it is sitting on my dresser. I am really undecided as to what to do. I could return it and buy the 3G version, but that just gets a little pricey.

Either way, my current PW1 has an intended recipient if I upgrade. I could of course keep it, but I do feel I would like an improved screen for better reading.

EDIT: I forgot to mention one final thought I had once I tried both Kindles together. The Voyage is so tiny that I feel it is more in need of a case than the PW, which I'm currently using only in a sleeve. But I couldn't find any cases online I really liked. The Amazon one is expensive! I guess I am feeling very miserly right now. I just got back from a vacation and am thinking about the need to save a little.

This isn't usually the way I do things, but I actually placed an order for a Paperwhite 2 and will compare it to the Voyage, returning one of them. I'll have to pay return shipping but that is worth it to me to make the comparison, and select one of them so that I can move on... I would have gone to Staples but they did not have any of the 3G's.

Meanwhile I'm keeping the Voyage as pristine as I can -- it is still wrapped in the plastic and staying at home -- in anticipation of possibly not keeping it.

I thought that you weren't happy with the screen? The previous poster says that the screen is "wonderful" - he just isn't sure that he's made the right choice in going for the WiFi rather than the 3G model.

Sometimes that's the only way to decide. Luckily I already had a PW2 to compare it against (hubby's).

Yeah, I'm feeling very silly about it. I'm sure they are both fine, but my Kindle is getting increasing use on my daily commute, and even during travel because I stopped carrying my iPad, and so I want to make a good choice.

Nothing silly about it. I had two KVs in hand - both unacceptable by anyone's standards and didn't know if I should try again or order a PW2. I pondered it for a couple of days and decided to order in a PW. Once the PW2 arrived I was sure and began boxing the two defectives for return. I am very visual and needed this side-by-side to help me. Not my usual method either. For that amount of money a good choice is intrinsic. Hope you find your dream Kindle!

Hey, great thread ... I have had my PW2 for some time now and am really happy with it, as it more or less does anything I could expect from an e-reader (apart from not having 3G) ...

But hearing about the "new and improved" Voyage of course has got me thinking about upgrading ... So I guess I will wait some more time for the Voyage2, if at all:-)

For the records, I got the PW1 very soon after its release, imported via a friend from the US, and reluctantly sent it back as everybody who saw it side by side with my Kk immediately noticed that the screen was not as sharp as that of my Kk or K4 (most likely due to low contrast when lit).

So, if your screen on your PW1 now is fine, why upgrade?

The PW2 is perfect, a K4 with touchscreen and light when it is dark. Problem solved :-)
