Wow, if that's indeed true, it would be quite a change from how Amazon used to handle things. Though, the last rep I talked to was not friendly nor helpful either. She was the second CS employee to tell me that the gradient was by design, and that they all have it in certain conditions.

I pasted below the negative review I had mentioned before. I'm also surprised that their CS has behaved this way, if the person's story is accurate.

BTW I'm surprised so many people have been having freezing issues. My KV hasn't frozen once, and I've been using it for a couple hours every day.

When I tried to go to Home Page, the Kindle locked up and gave a blank screen. It wouldn't restart. Nothing would work.

Twice I've tried to return this Kindle. It only worked a few days and my attempts to get a replacement have met with SILENCE. No email response to my email. No Order showing a replacement scheduled. It's the first time I've had such a horrible response from Amazon. I suspect the whole lot of Kindles are defective and they are overwhelmed with the problem.

While it worked, the Kindle Voyage was excellent. Certainly their finest book reader yet. Too bad it's defective.

I will not order another voyage, no. My eyes are obviously sensitive to color issues and I don't feel the voyage can work for me going by the one I had, seeing a friends, and seeing the pics posted on this board. Since Amazon started making lit kindles, I have had an issue with most of the screens.

I instead bought the Kobo H20 and I'm thrilled with it.

I think you are agreeing with HarryT about eyes being sensitive to the gradient while most fortunate folk see no problem at all.

I'm glad you've found a reader you are happy with, albeit not a Kindle.

I had 6, and not all of them had freezing issues. Some froze literally after one or two touches, some after playing with them for longer, some not at all. This leads me to believe that there is malfunctioning hardware out there, but not on all.

BTW, they were all used under the same conditions: take out of the box, turn on, restart to circumvent the intro, read the user manual, access the settings, etc.

I'd never skip the intro. Maybe the Kindle does some stuff while runnin it , such as creating folders, or run an initialization script.

I was thinking the same. For one person to have that many Kindles with freezing issues has to be related somehow.

From the posts on this forum, and from the reviews on Amazon, it doesn't seem that freezing is a very common problem. I've seen only a handful of reports of it, and there's no mention of it at all, that I can see, on the reviews on amazon.co.uk.

Mine hasn't frozen, well not that I noticed but yesterday it did spontaneously restart on me. That was after I updated to the new software as I was going through the books on the cloud. Hopefully it's a one off.

What new software, Josie? Has there been a firmware update for the Voyage?

All done, and it still works, so that at least is a good start. Some of the new features look interesting.
