Wow, if that's indeed true, it would be quite a change from how Amazon used to handle things. Though, the last rep I talked to was not friendly nor helpful either. She was the second CS employee to tell me that the gradient was by design, and that they all have it in certain conditions.

I pasted below the negative review I had mentioned before. I'm also surprised that their CS has behaved this way, if the person's story is accurate.

BTW I'm surprised so many people have been having freezing issues. My KV hasn't frozen once, and I've been using it for a couple hours every day.

I had 6, and not all of them had freezing issues. Some froze literally after one or two touches, some after playing with them for longer, some not at all. This leads me to believe that there is malfunctioning hardware out there, but not on all.

BTW, they were all used under the same conditions: take out of the box, turn on, restart to circumvent the intro, read the user manual, access the settings, etc.

I'd never skip the intro. Maybe the Kindle does some stuff while runnin it , such as creating folders, or run an initialization script.

I was thinking the same. For one person to have that many Kindles with freezing issues has to be related somehow.

From the posts on this forum, and from the reviews on Amazon, it doesn't seem that freezing is a very common problem. I've seen only a handful of reports of it, and there's no mention of it at all, that I can see, on the reviews on amazon.co.uk.

Mine hasn't frozen, well not that I noticed but yesterday it did spontaneously restart on me. That was after I updated to the new software as I was going through the books on the cloud. Hopefully it's a one off.
