The software update includes general improvements and the following feature enhancements:

• Support for Family Library
With Family Library, you can link two Amazon accounts and share books on your Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Generation and other compatible Amazon devices and apps. To learn more, visit About Family Library.

• Support for Kindle FreeTime Unlimited
Kindle FreeTime Unlimited is an optional monthly subscription for Kindle FreeTime that offers thousands of books for children ages three- to eight-years-old.

• Word Wise – See Hints for Difficult Words
With Word Wise, you can see simple definitions and synonyms displayed inline above more difficult words while you read. Word Wise makes it easier for readers learning English and kids reading their first chapter books to understand challenging books more quickly.

• X-Ray Improvements
Explore the "bones of a book” with an improved timeline and the ability to browse images and filter by Notable Clips.

• Deeper Goodreads Integration
Goodreads on Kindle makes it quicker to access and update your reading status and adds the ability to preview and purchase books without leaving Goodreads.

• Periodical Improvements
You can access up to 40 magazine back issues from the cloud on your device. Multiple issues of the same periodical are now collected together.

So how does one create a virtual household and authorize credit card sharing? I'm told I need to do it but not how.

was wondering that . think u just add the other account on ( think there a family share option somewhere in manage account like u did when signing up for kindle unlimited . but not too sure.)

cant wait only my knidle seems to do this , hope i can get my partners kindle sorted out . will be good to get those books without loosing access to the others.

Manage Your Content and Devices now has buttons to Add To Family Library but I get this error:

Content sharing is currently disabled. Please go to your Family Library-enabled device to turn on content sharing.

There's no such option that I can find on my Fire HD6, though I had previously created a Household Profile for my wife's account (and that is reflected on the MYCAD page). So something is not quite ready.

Hope they roll this update out to PW1, and add FL support to the iOS and Android apps.

Update: I can add books to a 'Guest' profile that I created on my HD6, but not to my wife's account. It shows the account icon next to the title. Nice. It's really a pain to add books to the child account on the Fire itself, so being able to do that on MYCAD is brilliant.

Can anyone check if this firmware can be downgraded using the noeject-and-reboot trick ?

I am looking forward to the Family Time as long as it lets the user keep their device registered to their account and the "sharing" account can select which books and apps are shared, not just everything on the account.

YAY! Amazon FINALLY separated collections as they should have been all along. Now when you are in device view not only do you see just the collections on the device but just those books which are in those collections are listed. And the Cloud view is to see everything. I have been waiting for them to correct this since they introduced Cloud Collections. Now off to explore to see what else they have improved.

Good - that sounds like a very useful enhancement.

Yes, I haven't checked to see how this enhancement affects the collections on the Fire yet but this is something I have been wanting them to implement since collections changed. Now looking at them, they are much more useful to use.

Of course now my Cloud collections are out of sync, either that or they are still re-indexing, so I need to give my pw some alone time to do it's thing. I went from 5 pages to 617.

They said they made improvements to Goodreads on Kindle, so far I have not noticed what those changes are. Sad to see they still have not added our personal shelves. I am starting to think they never will.

I'm not understanding this change. Isn't that how it already worked?. I thought that with cloud collections the collections on the device and the ones in the cloud were supposed to be the same.

I'd really appreciate you telling me more about the difference here.

The difference is that with previous versions of the firmware, when you went into "Collections" view you saw all your Cloud collections, regardless of whether "Device" or "Cloud" was chosen.
