Being mildly dyslexic while growing up, I suffered a bit from "left right confusion", often substituting "d" for "b" and vise versa, thankfully I grew out of it during puberty.
My biggest problem in that vein, though, was having left dominant eyes but being right handed. I learned to shoot all firearms left handed, and don't even ask about archery! Then when in my fifties, I lost central vision in my left (dominant) eye to Macular Degeneration, and had to learn to shoot all over again. I still occasionally stick the rifle butt into my left shoulder, close my right eye and am immediately blind! |

I did a bit too much yesterday--helping out with insulating the plumbing pipes (to prevent them from freezing). My right hand, wrist and forearm are hurting big time. I need to rest my hand/arm for a few days so I might not post as much. This sucks up the ass... Am I allowed to say that on here? Let's find out... *posting*
Yes I am! Yippee! Last edited by trichobezoar; 11-13-2014 at 07:25 AM. |

Very funny/learning reading the lefthanded stories. I've been drumming the last 35 years. But still my left hand isn't as strong as my right. Even though i've been practicing the same patterns for all these years. The hearing loss is spread even though....

We lefties have been getting the short end of the stick since the beginning of time
Sinister = sinister and left Out in left field Two left feet Left out In Sanskrit, the word "वाम" (waama) stands for both "left" and "wicked. Gauche means "left" in French In Hungarian, the word for right is jobb, which also means "better". The word for left is bal, which also means "bad". The list goes on and on! We won't even talk about all those years in school, sitting at a desk trying to write on the thin board mounted on the right side of the chair, or trying to get comfortable writing in a three-ring binder with one's wrist resting on the rings! I chant mantras from the albums "Tibetan Mantras for Turbulent Times" and "Mantras for Precarious Times" by Deva Premal. These are the mantras specifically: Compassion: Om Mani Padme Hum Purification: Om Benza Satto Hung (Helps with one's resolve to make the mind good, auspicious, immeasurably loving and virtuous) Perfection: Teyata Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Soha (Helps one become generous, patient, conscientious, diligent, focused and wise--the six arts of perfection) Removal of obstacles: Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha I know Eastern philosophy and practices aren't for everybody. It took me a long time to become open-minded about them. A LONG TIME... If I had been more open-minded about meditation and mantras, I might've been on the path towards healing a long time ago--in my twenties. My life might've been vastly different. Whatever you decide to do, may your path bring you in touch with people who understand, are compassionate and believe in the power of prayer. *hugs* |

Starting to get a cold.
I had a throat ache yesterday and during the night I kept sneezing. Hopefully the Lemsip can stop it. |

Microsoft.
I've got an 11 year old IBM ThinkCentre (back then they were branded by IBM) running Windows XP SP 3 -- the same OS it had when I bought the computer, although I cloned it to a larger HD in 2007. It's old and I'll be getting rid of it, eventually, and it's not my only computer, but it's convenient and I plan to nurse it along until it drops. I've got it protected by a good firewall, a good antivirus program, and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (Premium). Daily scans show it's not infected with anything. I've been getting and running updates from Microsoft on a regular basis. Tonight, out of the blue, I started getting nags that seem to be coming from Microsoft claiming that my "copy" of Windows might not be genuine and I have to resolve the issue by downloading a "tool" -- WGAPluginInstall.exe -- to validate it. It does seem to be sending me to a Microsoft website. Seriously? After updating it all these years? And I'd rather not install more software crud on a system that's (really!) showing its age, anyway. At best Microsoft comes across as incompetent. At worst, a bully. (Both are probably true.) |

Thanks. I run Linux on other computers, but I "clean up" vinyl records (LPs) on this computer with DC7 (Diamond Cut 7), which I really like but isn't available for Linux. I haven't found anything for Linux that I like nearly as much.
