Looking for a new reader

I have an old kindle 2 that has seen better days and a nexus 7 that does am on job at reading but is way to bright at night. So I'm in there market for a new eink reader (prefer one with a light).

Looking around the kobo aura HD looks really nice, and has a memory card slot which is always a bonus meaning I can never have to worry about running out of space ( though admittedly I don't I would run in to space issues soon)

My basic wants are

Sharp screen
Light
Mobi support (epub support is a bonus)
Easy collections (I use this feature for keeping my series in order )

Any suggestions? I'm not to impressed by the new kindly voyage it seems to expensive a friend had a paper white and it was splotchy with the light

From what I have read the Mobi support on Kobos isn't very good and you'd be better off using Calibre (add plug-ins if necessary) to convert to epub. I would also suggest the H2O instead of the Aura HD as the screen is far better for very little difference in cost.

+1 on both counts. Don't use mobis on on a Kobo even if they kinda support them; epubs work much better. And I own both the HD and the H2O, and I woudn't get the HD at this point, unless you can get it at a serious discount. Not that it's bad (far from it, it's a fine reader), but the H2O is just better.

It looks like the H2O compares very well with the Kindle offering but has a few features that while not super important are very nice to have. The few DRM'ed books I have can always be un DRM'ed without much headache.

Is the H2o's screen really that awesome?

IMO it's the best screen I've seen, the others have all looked like backlit screens if the light is on sufficiently to have good contrast with text while the H2O is a creamy colour not LCD white/blue which is so much more restful for my eyes. The addition screen real estate when compared to a 6" reader is also very welcome.

Is the light still really bright on low? I read in bed after my wife goes to sleep and I don't want the light to disturb her like my nexus does

No. It goes from completely off to barely visible in a dark room when it's at 1 or 2%.

Yes . Someone nicked my H2O yesterday, and I am back on my HD until bol.com gets my new one to me tomorrow. With the same firmware (3.11.0) and the same font (JWolf's Charis SIL Modified) the HD, good as it is, has markedly lower contrast.

Yes, the HD has a "Pearl" eInk screen; the H2O has the much improved "Carta" screen. The contrast of the Carta screen is significantly better.

Your friend probably had the original PW. The PW2 (the model currently sold) has a much-improved lighting system. Worth taking a look at.

Well after much thought and debate (and seeing a PW2) I decided to go with that, its cheaper and I'll have it sooner, it looks like you have some time to try it and if you dont like it you can send it back so worst case I'll do that.
