Damn! The moment I put my tinfoil hat on to go into tinfoil hat contemplation (THC) with the brains of some agents about important stuff, they tell me someone here spoiled our methods! Can't you see that we're doing this for all of you people? THC or iTHC, as we initially wanted to name it (to make it sound more egocentric and consumer-friendly) but got changed by some guy in a black suit who didn't believe that anyone would buy a device the name of which began with an "i" at all, is actually a good thing that's meant for your protection against the aliens!

I would go for the Kobo Aura H2O. You can use your ePub eBooks with the H2O as is unlike the Kindle which does not handle ePub.

@eschwartz: I was refering to your earlier theory which revealed our true plans and the idea of communicating via tinfoil hats already:
Quote:
That strategy was not exactly as fine-tuned as our regular mass media campaigns used to be, but we had to lower our standards. Unfortunately, it had a side effect on consumer acceptance for compact cars and minicars over here in Europe. German ADAC magazine recently headlined 2,5tons worth SUVs as "The new Golf class" (Golf was the VW that got exported to the USA under the name "Rabbit"). So we caused the first mass market of minicars which are too heavy for some streets and bridges, can't park in most parking lots and are not able nor allowed to use the fast lane on freeways where there are roadworks taking place. If you really want to step in and help us protect humanity from the aliens, buy a Merkelphone(TM) and follow the www-wide instructions on tinfoil hat making (ACHTUNG, FRITZ: leave out steps 5-xx or else you will build a faraday cage which won't work). Keep the Merkelphone(TM) on at all times and wait for our agents to call you for further THC instructions. Do NOT recruit further agents on your own until you made enough money to buy our secret DVD collection "iTHC for advanced beginners"! |

![]() I like that extra space on the bigger display and the otb Calibre handling (tags for collections), the crappy dictionaries however, and lack of proper ones to buy and install, drives me miles away from even considering it as a Sony replacement. Btw: I turned all the fancy bluelights down and still: PRS T2 was the brightest and had the best contrast under normal room lighting in comparison ![]() About Kindle not reading my epubs: guess where I bought all of my books that I read on the Sony in the first place? As Eschwartz already said: format is just... well, a matter of importing to the library. It's nothing that stands in the way. I figured that I had to convert most of those azw anyway, just to get rid of hilarious text formatting, so... |

Ah, I see... you were talking about tinfoil hats as communication devices.
That is... well, rather interesting. I would nominate it for an Ig Nobel Prize if there were genuine scientific studies behind it. ![]() |

![]() And there aren't just evil aliens, but also good ones! They are there to help gain rebirth, eternal life, 47 maidens, depending on your location and invoice address. It's a whole catalog of options to be honest, and I'm far from understanding even the tiniest fragment of it. They've got all the technology you could wish for, it's overwhelming! However, we shouldn't get too far into it here, let's not get off topic. That would be a danger to the mission: there are other agents around, those who are working for the evil aliens. Getting off topic while infiltrating user forums, is the best way to catch their attention ![]() |

Question to all the Kindleaniacs:
Has anyone tried to use the firewall to stop all communication except for translation and wikipedia? If so, did it save battery power by putting WiFi to sleep? Also, what are your favorite non-Kindle fonts on the PW2? Because, when I compared in the store today, all of the pre-installed fonts looked utterly cruel to me. I don't know what they were thinking when they put them on that device... Ah, I prefer serif fonts btw. I love Amasis on the Sony for reference. It's lightweight but works amazingly well on the PRS T2's low resolution. In comparison, the Kindle fonts look like a bolds and the height to width ratio seems very off towards width for my (and maybe other Sony readers') liking. |

Although I am pretty sure the BBB Firewall does not toggle the WiFi. Still, battery should not be drained so much unless it is being actively used, since it shouldn't try connecting. (Okay, okay, I admit it, I didn't really bow out. Sorry. ![]() Nothing to see here. ![]() OK, top secret, got it. This is disguised in another post though, so it's all good, yeah? FWIW, only 47 maidens? Islam has a better deal. ![]() |

Turning off WiFi on the Kindle will roughly double the battery life.
