Consistent Crashing on Auto Import
Ok so for a long time I have been experiencing consistent crashing on auto importing of books. When I restart Calibre the books do appear in the library, though.
I have removed all plugins except for Kindle Collections. Running on Win 7 64 bit (64 bit Calibre too). The auto import folder is a Drobox folder, but even if I add the files locally the crashes occur as well. Debug log gives: calibre Debug log calibre 2.9 [64bit] isfrozen: True is64bit: True Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '7', '6.1.7601') Python 2.7.8 Windows: ('7', '6.1.7601', 'SP1', 'Multiprocessor Free') Successfully initialized third party plugins: Kindle Collections Starting up... It appears to be crashing while trying to start up the Wireless Device driver. You can try disabling the wireless device connection (temporary solution), or checking your configuration.

checking my config for what? Any hints appreciated. It's a pretty vanilla set up really.
I wasn't aware I was using the wireless device driver to be honest. I plug in all my kindles, but I do use the content server wirelessly - so maybe there? I can't see where to disable that specific component immediately either? |

Does calibre crash immediately when you start? If so, move your configuration folder to a backup, you can find it here, on windows (copy this into the location bar of Windows Explorer):
Code:
%APPDATA%\calibre\ If calibre does NOT crash immediately, then click Connect/Share ==> Start/Stop wireless device connection. It should be on Stop if the wireless driver is in use, which the error message implies. Last edited by eschwartz; 11-09-2014 at 08:17 PM. |

EDIT: Furthermore, it appears that the problem is in MDNS (zeroconf). That implies that something is asking calibre for connection information, probably for the content server. |

I dont think either the content server or the wireless device driver are implicated. Both of those are pure python and even if they fail, they wont cause crashes. From that debug log, it looks like the zeroconf is failing ata startup, but I doubt that is relevant.
Only Qt related stuff can cause crashes. Unfortunately, Qt related crashes are pretty impossible to debug on windows, since getting a useable stack trace on windows is impossible without first compiling debug libraries of everything separately and making them available. Stil it cant hurt to try without the content server and see if that makes a difference. |

Forgot about this thread. I have disabled some plugins and the crashes stopped. Can't even recall what they were, leftovers from early calibre experimentation iirc.
