Honestly, I think what got me into trouble was handing down my iPad mini retina to my 12-year old so that I could (almost) justify getting a new iPad Air 2. I guess I never realized it, but I did most of my reading on the iPad mini and just used the PW1 outside and for travel. Once I started using the PW1 nightly I started realizing how bad the lighting was.

That led me here – and to the Amazon forums <shudders> – and the rest will be detailed in the papers I'll likely file with the U.S. bankruptcy court...
Tell me about it. I came here in 2010 just after I bought my first ereader. 4 ereaders and 3 tablets later I'm still here. With H2O I just couldn't resist. And (so I thought) my PW1 was very good, I did get a very even one with no faults and light at night was ok too. I was perfectly fine using it until I turned H2O on. What a difference.

I was lost the moment I picked up my Sony PRS 505 in 2009. I downloaded Calibre the same day, found this forum and the rest as they say is history.

All I have to do it play it cool until after Xmas. What he can't see can't hurt me.

I may even use his visit as an excuse to "look" at H2Os.

I really think it just depends on where you're based: I don't know why but I seem never to find good deals on English books I want to read on Amazon
Kobo coupons can make all the difference, too! Especially when the good ones (to save from 50% onwards) are working!
But I do agree Amazon store is way easier to browse through. Kobo's is a mess and quite slow, too.

Alright, done lurking...@Chi, @sparkle, @Josieb1-

I have been happy with my PW1, but was really looking forward to upgrading to Voyage. Uneven screen would drive me nuts so I think I'm going to pass for the time being...however, I really WANT a new toy () and you've got me thinking about the H2O. What hoops do I need to jump through to read my Calibre books (all azw3 with embeded fonts) on the H2O?

-you might as well get my room ready too! Oh, I'd like a fireplace!!

When there are coupons, most indie books, many small publishers (including Baen) and some backlist books are cheaper on Kobo. In those categories I pretty much shop at Kobo.

With agency books, they are usually a dollar or two more on Kobo unless they are on sale. Most of the time coupons do not work with the big 6 publishers.

You'll be next door to Patrick I guess and for hoops I just did the absolute minimum for the time being so I'm not an expert. I bought H2O only because I wanted a new toy

I'll sign off for today (after some lurking), almost midnight here and I had a long day

Google Apprentice Alf, that's as much as we are allowed to say here. Or if you've already done that just convert them to epub.

Alf and I are long time buddies !... epubs are okay? That's great. What is this I read about kepubs...different , better (on kobo), the same? Do soft hyphens work?
Thanks for your help. (I've been reading on the kobo forum and getting a crash course)

They told me they're getting your bed ready as we speak. Hey, what's this about a fireplace? You may know something I don't. If there's rooms with fireplaces here, you will have to fight me for it. I was on this ward before you.

Epubs are fine, as Josie said. Kepubs render slightly differently. Since you and Alf are friends, you're pretty much all set.

I have two plugins loaded in Calibre, Kobo Touch Extended and Kepub Output. using those Calibre sends all my epubs to my H2O as Kobo Epubs, which is Kepub. It looks better and it updates the stats (which is weird but i kind of like)

Also one of those plugins, not sure which one, allows me to send my books into Collections on the Kobo's using the Bookshelf tab I have in Calibre.
