I have noticed, but wasn't sure. Just comparing it to my son's Glo that still has 3.8.0, and the book tiles look at little bigger. But, it will only do two rows of books as well. For both, I can only get three rows if one tile is a small one such as the browser or a shelf.

I think this is by me, I just like it when everything has the same size or it confuses me, but it would be nice if Kobo at least offer the customer a bit how the "frontpage" looks like options.
It is okay if it's done by a plugin, but that there is a plugin (developed by you) is a bit of proof that customers do want the ability to add or remove things from that homescreen.
It is like my cabinet, clock on the middle, left and right of it are 2 picture frames (same size offcourse ) at both ends a plant of the same size, before the clock in the middle a fruit bowl.. thats how I organize..so that is why I don't like the frontpage that much,on the other hand..90% of the time you don't see it because you are reading a book

Looks like something has changed since I tested this in the beta. The signin screen looked like a Twitter page, so it's possible that has been disabled or maybe a key has been disabled.

Is there anyway to deactivate the dictionary sync and firmware check? I'm looking to speed up the syncs a little, preferably losing the recommended/Kobo store checks too so as it's only doing a Pocket sync.

Can you not just do a refresh from Pocket? When I do that it only syncs pocket articles, nothing else.

What you can do is turn on wireless, then connect to a wifi network, then press Library, then press Articles from Pocket. If it doesn't automatically sync, you can press the menu (3-bars) icon on the upper-right and press Download all.

An update about this issue.

In my brand NEW Aura H2O, the left-over issue while dragging web pages doesn't happen... So either Mark 5 hardware or Carta e-ink "fixes" the issue. (Or both).

It would be really useful if an Aura (Mark 5 but not Carta) owner could thoroughly test this issue. I can assure that in my old & broken HD the corruption was pretty easy to achieve.

Lost all my loaded books and now I have to load them all back up again, trying to remember what I've read and not read. After the reset and update to 3.11.0 I re-added kobo-nightmode_build13 and it works fine although there are no books on the device now. Long day ahead re-adding all my calibre books.

Hopefully this is just a one off thing for me but thought I'd throw it out there as a data point. Scared to upgrade my wife's now...

Is there a way for Calibre to remember what books were on the device and/or what is read/unread?
really sorry to hear that - I updated last night, then added night mode (and corridor, and Coolreader), and had no problems at all. If I were you, I would make a copy of the .sqlite file in the .kobo directory every often, so that you can put it back and restore your reading status up to the date of that file.

There is probably a better way with the Kobo utilities Peter referred to, but I have stopped using Calibre recently, as I was getting too many "error communicating with the device", and I was fed up with having to rebuild the database every time (but the reader was still working fine).

Errors communicating with device should be investigated. Could you run in debug mode and post the log please.

In my case it is usually database integrity error indeed, but otherwise it is working. (And I think database is significantly more prone to be corrupt when uploading bookds with calibre, though it may be caused by one of my Hungarian named tags.)

The problem is that DB errors can be serious, and eventually cause one to have to go through the device setup again.

That nasty "error communicating with device" tortured me for awhile. There was nothing wrong with the database, it was just the combination of Calibre with my Kobo reader while on WinXP with an AMD processor. And it would happen on every single connection of the reader. I might be able to transfer 1 book at most once in awhile, anything else would then pop up the error. This started happening with firmware 2.5.x and was told pretty much nothing could be done, and it definitely wasn't Kobo's doing, they didn't change anything that would affect communication between PC and reader.

However I tried downgrading to firmware 2.4.0 and the problem completely disappeared on the same WinXP machine with an AMD processor. That's one of the main reasons I stuck with 2.4.0.

This summer I installed Windows 7 on 1 of my 3 PCs, the main one I use, when I upgraded the motherboard and CPU (still AMD), so the problem doesn't happen anymore even with new firmware. But I'm still convinced Kobo made some change, otherwise 2.4.0 wouldn't have worked perfectly.

The Hungarian tags shouldn't affect anything unless you are putting them into the file name or title of the books. Calibre will update the metadata in the book, but the device doesn't read the tags.

As to more database corruptions when using calibre, you are probably correct. The driver is doing a lot of work, so the likelihood of a problem goes up. But, my experience is that it isn't a problem.

If you want to use calibre without risking the database, you can disable the KoboTouch driver and use the "Connect to folder" function. That will give you most of the calibre device related function without any of the database access. This is what I recommend for people using KOReader or CoolReader instead of the Kobo software on the device.
