I've been following this thread, as well as some of the others, and very much appreciate reading the experiences and opinions. I currently have a PW1, am disappointed with the Voyage (and its replacement) that I received, so am trying to figure out if a Kobo would be a better fit for me. Last night I read on an iPhone 6 Plus and, well, that's good in a supermarket checkout line, but a little tough for extended nighttime reading ;-) Last edited by PatrickNSF; 11-07-2014 at 10:25 AM.

I just received my H20 last night, and the screen, when lit, looks more natural than the Voyage, which looks more artificial. I like both readers, but I give the nod to the H20--the 6.8 inch screen, and ability to weight the fonts pushes it over the top for me. The H20, with it's lighting, size and ability to customize makes it feel more like a small paperback than the Voyage. I like them both, and probably will keep them both, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the H20.

I'm coming from a (blotchy) PW1, so either would be an improvement for me. I've been letting my 12-year old borrow my PW1 but, given his aversion to hand washing, I'm anxious to have my own unit. To my eyes, the Voyage lighting gradient seems more produced than whatever screen inconsistencies (if any) the Kobo has. But I've never seen a Kobo in person.

Very interesting! Thank you for re-posting it. I agree the voyage gradient is more pronounced but, all the same, Harry's voyage isn't too bad. The Kobo looks very even to my eyes. Good luck with your decision. I hope you're able to choose one you're happy with so you don't have to share with your son and his dirty hands. |

After much research last night, and feeling a bit refreshed this morning, I decided to have another look at the two Voyages I had. I opened a third which I also purchased at Best Buy with my original and which was intended as a Christmas gift. They all look different. One looks considerably worse than the other two :-/ I've decided to keep the best of the three, return one of the Best Buy ones to Best Buy, and send the worst to the Amazon engineering group (as was originally requested). I'm in the middle of drafting a letter to Amazon engineering (with attachments!) explaining what I'm seeing and how frustrating it is to be told to chose the "least defective" Kindle by Customer Service. It's probably not the "ideal" solution, but I'd like to have a Kindle to myself now but I don't what to completely let Amazon off the hook for what I think it poor quality control and communication.

It's been my experience as well that all lit e-readers, nomatter the brand, have quite a lot of differences between screens, especially noticeable when you compare them side by side. Sorry it didn't turn out exactly as you wanted, but glad you've made a decision and I hope you enjoy your voyage. |

Thank you for posting those pics. With any light setting that I could read with on my Voyages I had a two-toned screen with the top being dark yellow, blotchy, and semi opaque.

I had a play with the H2O in Smiths today, very impressed. The front lighting was very impressive far better than my PW2. I turned it off to check it wasn't a dummy model as the screen looked so good, it looks far more natural the my PW2. Size looked nice too. Im seriously tempted.
