Why is it that different formats of e-books have different prices?

Because the publishers can get away with it?? That's the closest I can come to an answer .... not a very good answer, I'll admit.

Why is one format more expensive than another? Why don't more publishers embrace electronic books? Why do publishers want to cripple books with DRM?

There just aren't any reasonable answers other than "that's the way it is". Kind of like when my parents answered the "why" question with "because I said so".
