I think sparkle is right. The PW2 we ordered in September has not only 4GB but also a better screen as the one we passed to my son (ordered last vear). So maybe their QC just got better, or maybe they really did improve sthing.
And WTF is "Anderson"? ![]() |

Anderson?
That's my tablet, thinking that Anderson is what I meant when I typed Amazon. I hate devices that think they know better. |

Not a matter of "religious fervour" at all, Jack. Just that Amazon generally announce new models, and this isn't a new model: it's simply the version made for the Japanese market being released world-wide. It's certainly conceivable that there are incremental improvements in manufacturing processes which could result in more consistent screen quality.

Either way, they wouldn't advertize it. They would have to admit to having QC and or manufacturing problems. Then they would draw attention to it (and more complaints may come in). Also if you upgrade because they claim it is much better, and you don't see the difference, then more complaints. Easier to just quietly improve the device over time. We don't exactly know what percent devices were affected and how many with defective devices noticed. But more that didn't know or notice will see it and complain.

According to this page (current?... it does mention the Voyage so I assume it is current) the distinguishing difference between the PW1 and the PW2 is whether it says Kindle or Amazon on the back cover.

It is sort of related because its a possible indication that the light gradient issues of the Voyage will probably be improved upon if the K4, PW history is anything to go on. Quote:

Okay, so I'll be spending New Year's Eve on NYC, and so I'll be getting a Kindle Voyage. Just a couple of quick questions for owners (sorry if they have been answered before, but this thread is now 58-pages long).
1. Should I get a cover? (Assume that cost doesn't matter, and base your answer solely on aesthetic/ergonomic factors). 2. Is the touchscreen noticeably more responsive than a 1st gen PW? (I'd specially appreciate the input from former PW owners). |

Follow-up:
Spoke to CS on Friday evening, they sent me a new KV for delivery Today(Monday). I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the tinting issues aren't present. |

I received my Voyage Oct. 27, so I was able to read some early reviews from people who had received theirs first. I was really nervous about the screen discoloration-afraid I would receive mine and have it too and be sorely disappointed.
BUT-I received my Voyage and it's pretty much perfect. Or, as perfect as you can get. I have analyzed it in every light condition, at every setting, using my hands to block out sections, using white paper against the screen for comparison-and all I can say is, it's still perfect. The screen is clear, white and uniform. I'm in love. |
