Amazon FireTV Stick announced - Page 10

It's been a busy week so I missed the announcement about the two-day $19 price window. Nonetheless Amazon's legendary customer service came through for me; they agreed to honor the 51% discount. Only problem is that my ship date is January 14th, but this will be something to look forward to after the Christmas rush.

Should be a handy device for traveling and use on our guest room TV etc.

The website is saying delivery is now after January 15th.

I wonder how many pre-orders they got?

Both, I think. I suggested that they should have notified me of the deal, given that I've been a long-time Prime customer and have bought five Kindles for family so far. Living in Alaska we also use Prime's free shipping A LOT -- virtually all other internet retailers want to charge exorbitant fees to ship even small items up here. I have friends in the bush (living off the road system) who get most of their dry goods and snack food using Prime -- far cheaper than shopping at the very limited local store, or paying $1.00/lb to ship from Anchorage

If there's one thing I've learned about Amazon, it's that it never hurts to ask for a deal or special accommodation.

My delivery date is the day it comes out.

Yeah, Amazon is very good about making the customer happy. They once refunded me for a MP3 album I bought a year earlier.

My complaint was that it was missing a track (which it was).

I have/get so much music that yes, I don't notice this stuff until much later, heh. I was actually redoing all my tags at the time and cleaning up track info.

I thought I was fast ordering, but it a week later than release. Mine says November 25th.

If I hadn't seen it on another board first, I would have been one of the later ones too. I ordered 1, at the time one could order 2.

I think many of us found our impulse buy amount.

For me it was FATE!

I just had one of the best swagdays this year and made the entire amount back already so hubby's Xmas gift is paid for now.
I told him he gets the Fire TV Stick and for me he can renew Prime as I can't live without the free shipping.

You guys are very excited about this stick. For Prime members, the $19 price is very good -- though not quite as good as the $12 price for the Chromecast with Netflix credit.

The Fire TV is a great streamer with a very good library of apps. There are deficiencies -- especially in news and entertainment -- but this is a great game console that streams all the major services.

I didn't buy any of these. I have the full size FTV and would definitely pay the premium for that device. With the FTV, you get better hardware (including wired ethernet and functional usb) and a voice control remote. The remote costs $40. The better hardware is especially important if you are going to play games.

For those who did not get in on this deal or may be wanting more devices than they purchased, Staples routinely sells the FTV for $85. Most of their promotions apply to the FTV. Two weeks ago, there was a $25 off $75 coupon, so you could have had one for $60. If you paid for that with ShopDiscover gift cards, that price is $50 and you get 5% on the $60 in Staples rewards and Discover cash back (if you start at shop discover) for a net cost of $38. Just trying to put the price in perspective.

The hotel authentication feature is great, but note that it is not currently functional.

If you bought one of these and have not already started collecting the free app of the day, start now. Just install the app store on any android device (or emulator) and start collecting. Plex is free right now...
