It's supposed to be published by Bell Bridge Books according to her site. Maybe the publisher pulled it temporarily due to some kind of errors at Kobo? They don't even list it on their site, the only title they list for her is Lord of the Storm. I did find a link to it on Kobo by using Google, but it leads to a 404 error page. It's still listed on the Japanese Rakuten/Kobo store. I notice on the authors site she has links to pretty much everywhere but Kobo for this particular book (so it seems a Kobo specific issue with this title).

No way to know. The author who had half her books pulled was never given an explanation. Best thing to do is contact the author and see if she knows--but if she doesn't list kobo on her blog/site then she may already know and not intend to put the book up there. The whole retailing and how to get a book up and which method can be complicated and a real pain. In some cases, it makes a lot more sense for the author to go direct upload. In others, they pay a distributor a cut to do it. I know Bell Bridge does publish original titles and they do upload to Kobo so I can't imagine why that one wouldn't be there, but there could be a reason!

But it still doesn't explain why it's available to buy in the US store with old checkout but not with new checkout.

I'm going to give it a week or so and if it still doesn't show, then I will email her.

Same here. I kept wishing that maybe just one of the codes from this contest would work somewhere other than the US or UK, but no such luck.

I really need to get to the ebook buying addicts thread...

SO I just now figured out that by clicking this link to browse the Kobo UNLIMITED35 you see a lot more books than the list that has the Love, Lust and whatever as a header that was linked to earlier. I found out during the last list of books that you sometimes don't see all the books (I was talking to customer service about something else and asked a question about a book and found that for some reason, not all the links go to the full lists--some go to specialized genre lists and some go to a full list.) Anyway, maybe the rest of the world already knows this, but this link:

http://store.kobobooks.com/List/save...cw5CwjRtf3Z3Q?

Which is the one I click on when I just visit the kobo site.

That list of 35 percent off was a lot bigger than the other genre lists I saw earlier. And if anyone has read "Hook's Pan" or "Dangerous and Unseemly" or "The WOlf at the End of the World," please let me know what you thought of them (I do not know any of these authors and some of these books are far down in the list, requiring you to hit, "see more results" more than once). In particular that last one (Wolf) has a quote by Charles De Lint so it caught my eye.) Just PM me if you have anything to say about those books in particular as I'd be interested in opinions.

Thanks. I fixed that in my post. I had no idea what to take out and I know I didn't put MINE in there, so had no idea why there was one at all.

I have not actually read Douglas Smith's "The Wolf…", but I can tell you that he is one of Canada's most-awarded sfnal writers, with multiple nominations and wins for the Aurora, which is our top bilingual SF/Fantasy prize, equivalent to the Hugo/Nebula, as well as other awards, including a nomination for the US Campbell Award for Best New Writer back in the day.

Here's his ISFDB entry, and the short story that TWATEOTW is based upon was a double Aurora finalist in both its French and English translations.

So if reading werewolf urban fantasy were my thing, I'd go ahead and buy his in the assurance that I'd at least be getting competent quality writing.

Smith has been an RAEBW participant in the past and you might perhaps have picked up some of his short stories free-with-coupon* during the yearly Smashwords sales. If not, he offers on his direct-buy website store a coupon for your choice of one free short story (or a buy-1-get-1-free deal, or 50% off a short, depending on which offer you take) so you can try his writing before you buy. "Spirit Dance" is the one that got expanded into TWolf, by the way.

Hope this helps.

* Disclaimer: I did exactly that and bought his short story collection at a discount as well, mostly To Support A Canadian Author® (and also because it was going really cheap), but aside from sample skimming, have not actually gotten around to reading his works in full just yet. So YMMV.

Or: My journey to that one 75%. I was able to get an expensive coursebook, so I suppose it's worth it.

There might be a code or two I didn't categorise properly. Just in case.
