Something I suggested a long time ago in the MobileRead Feedback forum was a new sub forum for alternate readers for Kobo, ie KoReader and Coolareader.

Unfortunately the idea went over like a lead balloon; no feedback or comments from anyone.

Its just I see massive threads like this and wonder how on earth can a new user find anything!

This has become by default the KOreader forum. Both KOreader and Sergey's Coolreader port run on more than just the Kobo devices. I would support an actual Forum for Alternative Software, but I expect that the Moderators think there is one already.

Luck;

So if you continue your venture (please do!), I think we should discuss this in another forum thread for now. Feel free to start one! I'll not get to start working on this before the weekend.
Thanks for the reply! I shall make another thread, but only if I make any interesting progress haha. This could be a dead end ahead. I am also loaded with work for the week so can't do much. Anyway, thanks for the reply, and I think you are right! it must be a pointer to the object! I will try to verify that.

That's what the description says. However, I can't see any difference after long tapping the title (and no feedback at all that it did anything like popping up a question "you want ABC as the new default dictionary?"
It keeps always using the same dictionaries first and not the ones I want.

Though thanks for checking it, in this case I'll not check it. But what is strange for me: without setting anything earlier my two language dictionary was first (and both its filename and internal name is ahead of the one language). I deleted the one language dictionary, so now it works as intended with one dictionary, but a bit more items are not found at all.

I have two turn of the century MerrianWebster dict. on my AuraHD, which comes in handy for the older terms that are sometimes used in epic fantasy. Often a term will appear in both dictionaries, I haven't noticed that there was any order to which dict. a word would open with. I often use the arrows to switch to see what is found in the other dictionary. If I am bothering to look up the definition, why not see what they both have to say?

Luck;
Ken

I assume you are native speaker, in Hungarian I understand an English word quite quickly, in explanation I have to think more, that is why I prefer the bilingual first, but if a word is not found or its meaning still unclear, I can go to the other. (BTW I also had the 1913 dictionary which was useful reading Alvin Maker series ) Actually with the 3.11 update the stock firmware is better in this sense, I can select which dictionary is default by book But it still doesn't beat koreader overall .

Question latest version?

I'm thinking of installing koreader on my aura h2o, but from what I've seen on the first few posts, the zip is an _old version, and people had problems with it. The thread is 132 pages long, and I wonder whether there are later versions and instructions in it. Anybody could point me at it?
Thanks.

Check out the Wiki: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/wiki - it has current instructions and links to the downloads. Take the latest nightly build, and you should be good to go! Have fun exploring the software!

As anacreon stated that they are using an H2O, it should be made clear that the sleep function in koreader is not currently working properly; you can make it sleep using the power button or sleep cover, but when it wakes the input will not work, and it will have to be reset.

Coolreader, on the other hand is fully working, if you follow the instructions referred to at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=523

Thank you very much. From what I've seen, I'd better wait until mid-November, when it would be modified for the H2o.

I see jlynton answered while I was writing. Thank you too.

I was just checking out Koreader version 929, from the OTA site, and it has a Calibre Companion menu item. Selecting that offers a "Connect" selection.

I'll give it a try soon. Well, it works as I would expect. One thing, you set a directory to put the downloads into (in my case I put them in a hidden directory on my external uSD card). In calibre you send them to "Main" memory and they end up in the directory you selected on your device.
(There may be an issue for those wishing to use the external SD card, like I am, I remount /mnt/sd as Read Write, when I launch Koreader.)

There is also a "proportional" screensaver option (not helping for my epub covers, adds black pillars on the sides. I think it looks better stretched to fit the full display.)

Luck;
Ken
