![]() Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give him a hearty welcome then Hurrah! Hurrah! The men will cheer and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home. The old church bell will peal with joy Hurrah! Hurrah! To welcome home our darling boy, Hurrah! Hurrah! The village lads and lassies say With roses they will strew the way, And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home. ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v2mW21M0cw ) What's with this 'we'll all feel gay' business. All I feel is pain... Everything hurts, even my hair. I ain't 25 years old any more... No wonder they draft 18yr olds instead of 68 year olds. If they blew Reveille at 6am, we'd never make it to the chow hall until 9. Good morning, everyone. Another wonderful weekend spent fighting with the cream of Asia's up and coming young athletes. A good time was had by all, and the Chiang Mai Fencing Club, although not bringing home any medals this time, was able to hold it's collective head up as we left the tournament grounds. Four of us made it all the way to the semi-finals (where we were squashed like bugs...) and had a wonderful time. The two who didn't get that far were competing in their very first competition, and were rather nervous about it, so didn't fence as well as they normally do. We should have put ALL of our club's fencer in the semi's! Considering our ages, THAT really would make the name of the Chiang Mai Fencing Club a household name in Fencing circles! These young Asian fencers are going to be making names for themselves in the Fencing World. Some of them are just really, really, REALLY good! We'll be fighting them again at the end of next month, and I'm looking forward to another enjoyable tournament. We made a lot of new friends, spent time with several who were at the last tournament, and all in all, a genuinely good weekend, fencing during the day, eating and shopping in Bangkok during the evenings. It's nice to be home again though, and now drinking a big, big mug of East India Company's 'Assam' tea, and getting ready to visit the Food Lady. As much as I like my Super Duper Energy Bars, her cooking is much tastier! Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 10-27-2014 at 09:06 PM. |

A glass of fresh squeezed orange juice with my breakfast burrito this morning. (Eggs from my hens, chorizo I made myself, and Salsa Ranchera from La Victoria cause I'm lazy and they already do a better job than I could with the ingredients readily available to me here.)
Time to make a pot of Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend. |

A delayed first mug.
We live at the end of a long dead end with only a few kids on it, so Halloween tends to be easy. When we moved here, 23 years ago, we were expecting our first and most of the neighbors had young kids. As the kids have grown up and gone to school or moved out, most of the families have stayed. One family that did move away made room for a young family with a three or four year old. He usually makes out pretty good! |

My bad... This morning I called today's holiday one of the Thai New Years days. It's not. Today begins the 'The Festival of Lights.' There are fireworks going off all over the city, and the skies are filled with 'khum loi,' the large paper hot-air balloons. Saturday night and Sunday nights are the big events, and if tonight is anything to judge by, they will be great to see. I'll try to get some video footage of that to add to the three other events that I still haven't finished editing. I DID learn a bit more about the software today though, so I'm making progress.
Right now, though, it's a glass of Bombay Sapphire in front of the window as we watch the evenings fireworks! Stitchawl |
