#1 Just because they're not replacing doesn't mean you can't take your refund and reorder.

I do notice the mottled look at the bottom more, but I would rather have that than a yellow screen. I have my next one charging (no KV, so two for the price of one and I will donate the PW1.) and I based it on the S/N - it was different. All of the others had a letter at the end, this one (#2) has a number instead. Just made me wonder. I'm a curious Leo.

ETA - I also ordered ones with Special Offers, in a weak attempt to get another batch. It worked! These all came from about 40 miles away.

Yes I could reorder, but I think I'll wait a bit and buy from Best Buy if/when the screen lighting improves--much easier to return, I can return it on the spot. I agree it's the party line, and agree with the software update rubbish, and politely called him out on that, it's not a certain lighting situation issue, it's a hardware defect, the issue is present to some degree in all lighting situations. The rep was nice, not his fault, so I didn't belabor the point.

I wonder if these were rushed out too soon to answer for Kobo's H20--which I'd buy if it was easy to return in the U.S..

It's very disappointing--but I can stick with my old basic kindle, which is still my favorite reader, and will remain so until I can get a Voyage with an evenly lit screen.

This was my thought. A rush job to get it out the door. It's a shame really. Gorgeous screen when properly done with a lot of potential.

I hope you get what you need, whether now or later.

My thinking is you got a CS representative who is not fully informed. I seriously doubt a software fix can actually fix the issue. I bet if you called back and got another CS rep you might have gotten a totally different answer. When I get a questionable response from a CS rep I always hang up and call back to get someone else.

True - promise - I ordered a couple more, ran out of names on my MYCD, and "Mr. Lucky" popped into my head so I thought "who knows, it might be the lucky one". I made a point of opening it first and leaving the others untouched. I started charging it and was a little disappointed when in comparison it still appeared to have a yellow look. Just removed it from the charger and when it came on it was white! Wheeeeeee! Mr. Lucky!

They really, really are. My PW 2014 is everything my PW1 wasn't. Period.

Pghaworth, congrats on your great screen! Jealous.....

I got a call from someone working in a kindle lab. They asked me to send one of mine (he specified exactly which of the 4) in to the ASAP, so at least they are looking into these issues.

Not sure if i ever updated my account of what happened yesterday, but i ended up calling CS back and talking to kindle "leadeship" (escalations) for quite a bit last night. He advised me that someone from the lab would contact me about it today, and was also going to initiate another swap (which has not happened). I told him that there are a lot of us who would be happy to help them test their prototypes, so issues like misplaced buttons for instance would be fixed before production. I told him that if real readers tested these devices, we'd catch issues from the get-go than someone looking at their ereaders as merely a shiny gadget. Sigh.

I'm glad they're at least handling this time differently for you. Maybe this will help get it all resolved. I really wanted my KV, but I was just finished settling. I want you to have the perfect, gorgeous device you deserve!!! Fingers crossed for you.

I'm not getting any younger and my cash hasn't started sprouting baby money plants. My only time is now and I wanted a great device before it was too late to enjoy it.

They should do that. I assume they send out early models to review sites, but those review sites rarely, if ever, know as much about Kindles as the people in this thread. All they would need is a non-disclosure agreement with the testers. This is a fairly common thing in the camera industry, and other industries too.
