Fire HD 6 - Personal Documents cover view in All Docs list query

My Fire HD 6 has just arrived and i've hit a potential snag already.

Can someone tell me if what I am seeing (and what Amazon is saying) is correct. The scenario is that I have 400 ebooks in Amazon's cloud, all as Personal Documents. All sent there via Send to Kindle. They were sent in mobi format.

In the Docs tab I can see the ebook covers only in Collection view.

In List view I just get the generic white kindle cover with a K and the word KINDLE in orange.

I can however see the covers in the Carousel

I can see all covers on my Paperwhite 1 and in my ipad Kindle app in all views, including List view and Collection view.

Amazon are telling me this correct behavoir
I test computer systems for a living and to me this is poor programing if this is the case.

Is this the way it is?

Also I have collections with both Personal Docs and Amazon bought ebooks in together, will those collections be in both Docs and Books with all the books, as thats what it looks like to me.

Its really confusing. TBH I hadn't realised they split up docs and books as they don't on my PW, and on my ipad app I just display as collections which is a combined view.

Any help or guidence would be appreciated as as it stands its going straight back.

Josie:

Yes that is how they display on my HD6 also, annoying but true.

As to the collections, Docs, Books and Audiobooks share collections. If you have mixed formats in one collection, then they will show in each section that has the collection. At first I liked this but then it became annoying trying to distinguish the books from the audiobooks so I have since separated mine and only include one type in collections. To be honest I never created any collections for my Docs other than the ones I already had on my pw2. Oh and on my pw2 the books and personal docs have always been separate.

Do you have a lot of collections? Books? My HD6 has an annoying habit of removing and re-creating my collections every time I take mine out of sleep mode and it is unusable for 10-15 minutes while it is doing that. Quite annoying when I want to pick up my device and start reading.

Oh and this device has a lot of little annoying habits that is making me want to return it. The only thing stopping me is because I have already sold my Fire 2012.

I want so badly to like it because of it's size. I plan to buy one this Saturday.

Hubby and I share an account and we have around 35 collections between us, and around 900 books and 400 personal docs. My collections are mainly Personal Documents but what I don't understand is how it's randomly deciding what to do, I have a collection of over 200 personal documents that is all docs yet that's is books. And other collections that are mixed that is only in Docs. It's a mess and so frustrating. Right now I can't see me keeping it at all.

I'm fast running out of options for kindle.

I've just had to go to the ipad app to move three books out of one collection that were in two collections. The whole point of the fire was not to have to manage the collections on another device!

I don't use documents so I might be suggesting a stupid solution; bear with me. Can you bypass Amazon altogether and store your documents in another cloud using a third party app for access, editing, etc?

The whole point of sending my ebooks to Amazon's Cloud was to use Whispersync, but I don't know any more. I just find it hard to believe a simple app for the ipad is better than the Kindle Fire

Gotcha - it seems that all Amazon related iOS apps are better than their Android counterparts; and even the baked-in ones for the Fire.

I don't use cloud collections. When Amazon pushed those through, I returned my PW2.

I use Calibre Companion to wirelessly load and manage epubs on my Fire 6. For Amazon books, I just download what I want to the device.

I actually wanted a dedicted device that hubby and i could share for browsing book covers and reading non fiction books, particularly the ones with pictures. I also wanted to manage collections on it. All hubbys books are from Amazon, most of mine are not.

Don't hold out because of me, it is not major things but there are a few little things that are really an adjustment curve for me. But this collections crap is going to skip the scale. I have decided if Amazon has not resolved it on their end by Saturday I am going to contact them about returning this one and getting a replacement. I am hoping this is just a problem with my device and not all of them in general.

I guess I am used to collection management on the pw, making changes on the Fire is not as easy or as intuitive, so I've given up with messing around with them there.

I am finding this to be true. I sent them feedback asking why the ios had better features than their native devices. I can understand the differences between ios and android but to have one of their free apps for another platform better than their device is idiocy at its finest.
