As booklover6 says, the HD is older than the Aura so it's not really a step backward. You'll have to get some input from someone with an H2O to find out what its refresh options are. Perhaps in the Kobo forum.

The H2O allows you to set the screen refresh interval to between 1 and 6 pages. I have it on 6 and honestly never notice the refresh.

It seems to me that since this is a Kindle forum and thread, Kobo discussions that are totally off topic and totally unrelated to the Kindle Voyage should take place in the Kobo forums.

The H2O and Voyage are the two "top end" eInk devices currently on the market, Jack. It's natural that people will wish to compare their capabilities.

On another note if I decided to stick with Amazon and buy a Paperwhite, are the new ones no longer having any lighting issues?

If it was not for this current lighting issue I would just buy the Voyage but it is not worth the hassle of returning the ereader.

I'm trying to compare and contrast the page refresh aspect of these ereaders, it is difficult to determine because many of the ereader reviews on Youtube only show a few page turns. The Good ereader crew will talk about everything else under the sun but they will never turn ten pages in a row and display how long an ereader can go before a full page refresh and how well the screen holds up when it comes to ghosting issues.

My pw2 lighting is much improved over the 1. No weird pink and green blobs and minimal light cones at the bottom. I got one with pin hole but returned it and next one was okay. I see little reason to upgrade to the voyage. $200 is more than what I pay for the nexus 7. Apple and orange I know, but still the difference in the tech packed in them is ridiculous

I purchased mine just a few months ago and I believe the lighting is as good as a PW2 can get. I'm sure the odds are in your favor of getting a good one. Of course, who can say for sure?

The screen is really nice on the PW2 2014. Not quite as bright and contrasty as the KV, but a significant improvement over the PW1. There are varying screen tones, from creamyish to more white (I hope), but the evenness in comparison to the PW1 is striking. I don't feel like I'm settling this time.

I also love the 4GB of the PW2 2014 compared to the 2GB of the 2012 and 2013 models. The Voyage has 4GB, too, but I've returned mine and will wait for the next iteration.

I was also thinking of plan B: I was debating whether I should buy a new PW2 if I can't get a good Voyage screen, but I would stick with my yellow PW2 for another year, instead of basically replacing a shoddy PW2 with a better PW2.

My second KV replacement should be here any minute now!!!

PS: I second Jack's request to please stay on Kindle topic. I, too, am considering a switch to the H2O, but there is this other thread for it. Thank you

I sure hope you get a good 2nd replacement. I'm happy with my replacement. I read quite a bit on it last night in my dimly lit living room and the screen is a nice consistent white! In my more brightly lit study I can see a bit of blue tint, but it is consistent throughout the screen without any gradients or shadows, so I can definitely live with that.

ETA: And best of all, it doesn't look like my cat peed on it!
