Thanks! I keep that turned off on both my PW1 and KV and it doesn't help.

I have decided since last night's testing that if I can get a functional PW2, I'm going to stop trying to make the KV fit my needs and return it. I read with my PW1 last night instead of the KV and was quite happy. The KV is a lovely product that doesn't meet my needs in form or factor. Other than the higher pixel count, and the speed anywhere other than page turns, it isn't what I am looking for. I'm sitting this one out. I'm not even going to get another replacement.

I hope everyone gets the KV they're hoping for and loves it!

I don't have an average paperback to hand but I'd guess a paperback book is closer to 16:9 then to 4:3 ?

The ratio on my Kindle Fire 8.9 HDX feels very "bookish" in portrait mode, and with the sideloaded mantano app which adds a fake "unturned right hand page edges" border, it's quite convincing.

Contrast that with the Kobo Aura HD which is a comfortable read but is much "squarer" than a real book

Good point about sunlight though - e-ink is a must have for outdoor reading.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure 3x4 is closer to what paperbacks would be. I don't remember seeing too many paperbacks that were tall and skinny like a 9x16 screen.

I will admit though that I hadn't realised Amazons cheapest Fire the 8GB HD is only £79 which is £30 cheaper than the PW2 and £90 cheaper than the Voyage and the official case is half the price of the Voyage cases as well

I can see which way Amazon is going and I'd even bet that 5 years from now they won't even do a e-ink Kindle

If this indeed turns out to be true, I'll be very curious what kind of screen will be readable outdoors like eink. Current LCD/AMOLED screens won't cut it.

I got my replacement Voyage in today. The replacement definitely looks better than the original. The replacement has very little yellow tint, at least compared to the original Voyage I got. I attached two images below. Each image is clearly marked as to what the light level is set and as to which unit is the original and which is the replacement. I typically read at either light level 12 or 15, so I took the photos at those two levels. These are monitor sized images, so you can click on them to open them in a new browser window then zoom in for greater detail. Both Voyages look better in person than the photos show.

Both images were taken with the Voyages side by side so they would get the same camera exposure and lighting. I'm happy with the replacement. It is still not perfect, but it is a huge improvement. Although I must say it crashed during the initial setup while taking me through the "Getting Started" tutorial. I wish they would allow us to skip that darn tutorial. Those of us who got several replacement PW1s and PW2 saw that tutorial way too many times!

I can see a big difference between your first Voyage and the second one. I am glad that you now have a better one. Nothing worse than spending $200+ on something, only to find that it doesn't meet expectations.

Thanks! Yep, there is something about the yellow tint on the first one that makes the text look murky to my eyes. I'm so glad the replacement has very little yellow tint.

You definitely will get support from Amazon Germany in English as well.
It might take slightly longer (a few hours tops), but they definitely won't ignore you.
Often enough (not just with Amazon) I send English requests, as you never really know where your email eventually will end up.
I've sent an English email to Adobe Germany, for example. Their web form was in English, so naturally I filled it out in English as well. But then their German CS did contact me and asked, whether I prefer English or German.
In that regard, Germany is quite multi-cultural.

Yes, big improvement and it's great that you can keep it.
Mine is not perfect either, but I did get the better text contrast.

My replacement arrived. Significant improvement. Close to perfect. Perhaps the ones delivered last week were from a different batch (shipped from IN). The ones shipping early next year should be ideal.
