Perhaps I am a bit off. Personally, I am fine with my Touch and never got into the whole confusion to begin with. Not really a fan of the missing home button. (seriously, Amazon, you could bring back the page turn buttons that not everyone even wants but you could not do the same with the home button??? ![]() |

![]() And the reason I wanted the Voyage was mostly for the page turn buttons (and yes, to have the home button back would be nice too!) But as I've said, I got a lovely PW2 at the first try so sticking with that for now ![]() Last edited by Yolina; 10-24-2014 at 03:38 PM. |

My KV replacement is here, but even if it's amazingly perfect it will probably go back since it's not serviceable for me in specific areas that are applicable only to me (bedroom reading) and I see no reason to pay so much for a area limited device. Wish it weren't true, but my really crappy PW1 is better in the bedroom for me than my KV. ![]() |

From what I remember the PW1 never got better. The PW2 corrected many of the issues, but that was a different model.
As far as not complaining, that is a really good way to ensure subsequent models will be just as sucky. I'm convinced that our sticking around to complain forced Amazon to correct the horrible screen on the PW1 when it designed the PW2. Had we kept quiet and just ignored the issues, the PW2 would have been just as bad. But by riding Amazon's case and showing them we were pissed as hell, they had to make changes on the PW2 design. No way I can prove that, but I think it is what happened. |

@cruff
Thank you for the great pictures. Could be some weeks till the Voyage hits the shelves of the retail shops in Germany. So I'm happy to get previews mostly to see how much of an impact the 300 dpi resolution has. Sadly all seem to use the Caecilia font. The benefit of higher resolution should be more visible with "true" serif fonts like Baskerville or Palantino though. Could you do some pictures with Baskerville (font size 3/4) perhaps with a page of a Dictionary (the American one has a good mix of font styles)? Thanks in advance. |

The first pair are Baskerville, the second pair are Palatino. The full screen ones have been rescaled to fit in the site image size restrictions. The detailed ones are just cropped. All were using font size 3 of 8.

In that second photo, are those the black specks that the poster in the Voyage impressions thread was complaining about? That does look pretty terrible although maybe it's only visible at that close distance.

I ordered another one with 3G and it was perfect as well. That was about a month or two later. The only bad one I ever got was my first PW2, which I pre-ordered with 3G. When it arrived the 3G didn't work and they overnighted a replacement, also perfect. Maybe I've just been lucky or maybe my old eyes just don't see the problems but I've had good luck with them. I was waiting to see if I want to buy a Voyage but all these reports have been scaring me. Now that I'm seeing pictures of the problems I may decide to go ahead and order one. They look fine to me. I think there might be a lesson in all this if someone studied the phenomenon. It would be nice to know if human vision or perception varies in some ways we aren't normally aware of or if this is a form of mass hysteria. And I'm not saying that to be snarky. I'm really puzzled about this. Barry |

Vision and perception vary widely, not just in terms of quality of an individual's eyesight, so I'd say its pretty normal that 10 people looking at one single voyage screen will have different views on how it looks. Even more so when its from an image posted online in this forum, because that introduces differences from whatever device people are viewing the forum on into the mix too. Varying sensitivity to light and colour is pretty commonplace, and when you consider that even without the light some people don't like the PW screen (they see the text being behind a glass on the PW and therefore prefer the older basic Kindle or Kindle Keyboard screen), its easy to appreciate that people do see things very differently. ![]() Last edited by soulfuldog; 10-26-2014 at 11:06 AM. |
