It's not about tha correct white balance or the light source, its about the picture being altered to enhance the contrast. You would know this if you knew how to "read" histograms. You obviously don't know what you are talking about so I will not waste my time on you. Please buy the new Kindle Touch if you want but you will get far worse contrast then on the old one with 5-way navigation, and thats a fact. |

I will be buying the Voyage in the future, and that should look amazing. Still this new basic is so fast, and my replacement has a good screen... so I'm happy. Despite the lower resolution, gasp! I think I like it better than the PW, which is a superb ereader. If the original Touch had released with all of the bells and whistles of the current firmware, had a zippy processor, and a black bezel I wonder if I would have bought a Paperwhite... |

On the subject of photos, phones have a tendency to auto adjust exposure, contrast and color. That is why I took the pics that I took with a dSLR. I don't think there was any intentional deception, just that photography is inherently deceptive because it is difficult to make a picture match how the human eye would see it. Different optics you know.

I have personally compared the K4 Black to the Kindle Touch 2 and, while I agree that the contrast is not as good on the New Kindle, I don't really see what all the fuss is about here? The K4 is better, but the New Touch seems better than the the old Touch to me. I use the Touch, so I would probably use the New Kindle without issue. (Provided it wasn't one of the defective units that seem to be cropping up.)

Does amazon give the model numbers on their ereaders? Some of my home town electronics stores give the model numbers for the products they sell and if I am interested I would like to make sure that I get the lasstest model not last years models.

Well, I could not resist and ordered the new Basic from Amazon. It arrived just now. And yes, the screen is a tiny bit grayer than my old Kindle Basic (which has an exceptional screen, of course), and the text is not quite as dark and bold. It's still pretty good and I have no problem with reading on it. Even so, I'm a bit disappointed.
Otherwise, it works well and is fast. But I think I'll be using my non-touch basic for quite a while yet. |

I've played a bit more with my new basic now and in the lamplight the screen is the same yellowish white as that of the old basic. It only seems grayer in daylight. The text is a bit less bold (also, font rendering is quite different), but the contrast is still very good actually, better than on my old silver basic (after the font update). The difference with the old black basic is really only noticeable when comparing them side-by-side.
I suppose the new basic might grow on me in time. After all, I read almost two years on the silver basic, which has darker screen and poorer contrast, and I loved it. The new 2014 basic is by no means a bad reader, it's just that the old black basic has a truly excellent screen, and I've been spoiled by it. ![]() |

What covers are you all using with this kindle? I have the official Amazon cover. I don't like it because the front slides around. There seems to be only one other cover available for this Kindle.

I haven't found the right cover yet. Amazon cover is too expensive and I've read that it can't be closed at all?

Here's one -- but there are many more on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/M-Edge-Black...item2c80d4b1f5 Should mention, you won't get the Sleep Feature with this case, if that's important to you. Also should mention that they are also available on Amazon for similar prices. Again, read carefully, because Kindle Keyboard and Kindle Touch cases look basically the same in the listings. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...+jacket+kindle Last edited by rcentros; 10-25-2014 at 04:04 PM. |
